Article 1 Reflection <ul><li>This article really made realize how much technology we as society rely on today and how much more we have come in the past ten years with research and new inventions. </li></ul><ul><li>This website is very informative in regards to mentioning facts with The Aspen Institute of Communication Society . In this article, with that being mentioned made me want to go to the website to research it. </li></ul><ul><li>That shows how technology carries so much of our attention in everyday life. I like how in the article it mentioned how technology has helped students that have needed extra help or attention and technology has been a useful tool to use. </li></ul>
Article 2 Integrating Technology In the Classroom <ul><li>This article has not only the perspectives of the positives of technology but also the negatives. It differentiates the positives and negatives of how technology has been introduced. </li></ul><ul><li>It gives an argument if technology really is all that it is made up to be. </li></ul><ul><li>Integrating technology is also an important topic because of how technology acts as a change catalyst. </li></ul><ul><li>George Siemens, in his presentation at Educause on January 27, 2008, said, </li></ul><ul><li>“ Current developments with technology and social software are significantly altering: a) how learners access information and knowledge, and b) how learners dialog with the instructor and with each other.” </li></ul><ul><li>Web 2.0 technologies such as blogs, wikis, social bookmarking, etc. will continue to impact how information is created and distributed. </li></ul>

Reflection for article 2 <ul><li>I think this article made me really think about the previous classes that I have taken in regards to communication and also talking about integrating certain aspects into the class. </li></ul><ul><li>This article helped me more on refreshing my memory on what steps to take to bring more of a different thing into a class then the ordinary. With teaching for example, you have to have multiple different ideas and a variety of ways that you will be able to teach not just one of your students but every single one of them. </li></ul><ul><li>On the other hand there are many educators question whether students in online classes learn as much or receive the same quality of instruction as students in the face-to-face classroom (Cooper, 2001). Although students who enroll in online classes generally like the flexibility and convenience offered, they may not be beneficial to them. </li></ul>
Social Networking In Schools: Educators Debate The Merits Of Technology In Classrooms <ul><li>This article not only focuses on the aspects of technology and how it helps children in a positive way but it also focuses on the negative aspects too. </li></ul><ul><li>Students are going to be exposed to many forms of technology that may be inappropriate for learning. Negative effects sexual predators, cyber bullying and harassment by peers. Those always need to be taken into consideration when teaching. </li></ul><ul><li>Some of these effects are be taken into measure of removing social networks from classrooms which disables students to use technology in a negative matter. </li></ul><ul><li>In fact teachers also have to be careful as to how they use technology with secret relationships or sexual content in general or even with a student. </li></ul><ul><li>With the high rate at which social networking is today parents and legislators have high concern if technology in education is really worth it. </li></ul>Amanda Lenhart with the Pew Research Center's Internet and American Life Project, explained “ Mostly kids at risk already have a bunch of social and emotional problems in their lives. These kids are the ones who might engage in risky behaviors, seek out sex talk online and knowingly meet people who are older."
Article 3 Summary Continued <ul><li>The positive effects of social networking sites in education are profound. According to a study conducted by the University of Minnesota on student use of social media, students who are already engaging in social networking could benefit from incorporating it into curriculum. </li></ul><ul><li>Facebook is a fast growing network with 900 million users and with that many concerns and safety of people on the website have been a problem. </li></ul><ul><li>It has taken the measures to collaborated with the National PTA to protect children and educate parents, teachers on internet safety. </li></ul>Christine Greenhow, who was the principal investigator in a study, elaborated on the impact social networking could have on education . "By understanding how students may be positively using these networking technologies in their daily lives and where the as-yet-unrecognized educational opportunities are, we can help make schools even more relevant, connected, and meaningful to kids."
Article 3 Reflection <ul><li>After reading this article, I think that it made the most impact of how I think of society and the way I use technology today. Social networking is a powerful thing and can be used positively but also very negatively sometimes. </li></ul><ul><li>As a future teacher I will have to research and take precaution as to the new and upcoming technology that will come up in the classroom at some point. </li></ul><ul><li>There will always be concern with how internet is effecting children. </li></ul><ul><li>This article I think people should take into consideration with the sites that you can go to and learn more about what is going on with school safety, studies that are happening , and just to become more educated with what is happening in the social media. </li></ul>
Conclusion <ul><li>After reading these articles we can see that technology will always be improving and with that brings more money, controversy in the media and concerns with how effective it is. On the other hand people view technology as an opportunity to use it as a way of helping children to use websites and other devices to help educate them in a different matter. </li></ul><ul><li>If we use the same technology and never step out of the box to explore something different , does that help or make things worse? </li></ul><ul><li>That question can be answered in many was but to me motivating children is important to me and I want to incorporate different ways of technology and options in my classroom . Giving students choices is another way of setting them up for success instead of setting them up for failure. </li></ul><ul><li>Bill Gates states , “Information technology and business are becoming inextricably interwoven. I don't think anybody can talk meaningfully about one without the talking about the other.“ </li></ul>
