Immigration reform fys

  1. 1. The main issue of Immigration lies with the fact that one of the federal government’s core responsibilities is to control our borders and determine who enters the United States. Regrettably, the government has consistently failed at this, leading to today’s untenable situation with over 11 million individuals unlawfully present in the U.S. Not only does the border remain unsecured, but also the government has failed to reform its broken visa system to ensure that those who come to the U.S. on a temporary visa do not stay here permanently. As a country we need to enhance bordersecurity. Unmanned aerial support(cameras and sensors)would help enhance border patrol officer capability. Also negotiations among United States border patrol and Mexican borderpatrol would help the efforts to stop illegal immigration. The country needs to enforce their immigration law and inform state police offices about immigration laws so that they can become aware of stopping illegal immigration. The theory that once you get in you can get by and stay in needs to go. Once their visas run out then the there should be a notification to government offices to get them out. Funding for these things needs to be increased but if we want to start on immigration reform then it will have to start at the border.
