Choosing Audience

 1. 1. Choosing The Audience… Internal Escape Rewind Productions
 2. 2. The Film

Synopsis

“ Ever felt that a part of you is missing? That you’re pretending to be someone your not?

Alone, no family, little friends and stuck in the 9-5 job he never wanted, 34 year old

reclusive Larry is still progressing from the harrowing events of his childhood past…

He doesn’t remember anything, except for that one unforgettable occurrence that

resulted in his present day deranged dreams and frightful flashbacks.

Will he ever gain the clues he needs to make the next move to freedom?

When a female colleague takes an interest, Larry believes that things may finally be

improving for him, but then will a string of unmotivated murders and unexplainable

disappearances be catalysts that lead to a further downfall?”

Horror/Thriller Sub Genre “Slasher” Mainstream
 3. 3. The Target Audience

Who Are They?

Male & Female Teenagers aged 15+ who have an interest in horror or thriller movies.

The Research we carried out to find them and appeal to them

We analysed the results of research questionnaires

The reactions and interest from a marketing poster

Textual analysis’

 4. 4. Questionnaire Results

Results and feedback showed us that this age group;

Preferred typical horrors or (psychological) thrillers which involved a main character being a killer.

Liked (elements of the Slasher genre ) when the murders were committed with the use of ordinary tools or weapons such as knives or chainsaws.

Were familiar Themes such as isolation, murder, the ‘unknown’, and stalking were common responses from the target audience.

Preferred watching it where the main characters in the films were teenagers.

Love suspense, cliff-hangers, red-herrings and twists at the end of the plot.

 5. 5. Marketing Poster We asked a range of people of different ages (over 12yrs) whether they would be interested in watching this film, just by seeing the poster and reading the synopsis. A large 68% that said yes were at least aged 14 and older. The age group that were most likely to say no were those over 50.
 6. 6. Textual Analysis

 The results from the questionnaire allowed

us to do further research so we could meet the needs

of our target audience in our film.

 We did textual analysis’ on appropriate films such as;

-The Shining 1980 (Kubrick)

-Psycho 1960 (Hitchcock)

-Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974 (Hooper)

-Halloween 1978 (Carpenter )

 We were then able to identify the common codes and

conventions of the genre and then imitate them in our movie.
