One of the most important and sensitive segments of that supply chain involves the protection, transport, and storage of moisture-sensitive surface mount devices (SMDs). Many SMDs – and their reflowable solder connections – are extremely sensitive to moisture. Conventional HI cards, with reversible indicators, reflect only current (dry or humid) conditions. If products are exposed to damaging humidity for a prolonged period but are returned to a dry environment before the card is checked, such damage could go undetected, as the reversible indicators change back to their original color. Thanks to its non-reversible indicator, the new HUMITECTOR™ Type 2 HI card provides a more complete history of the dry pack environment, indicating permanently the content’s exposure to humidity over 60% for a prolonged period and it’s possible damage during transport or storage, even if the environment turned dry again.
