• The need for high-quality chronic disease
information will continue to grow in the
Spanish and Catalan audience.
• DVD and forum-mediated interventions are
effective in facilitating holistic empowerment.
• A multi-stakeholder approach is more effective
than single modality interventions.
• Low tech, high impact is the way to go!
Conclusion
Forumclinic is a set of audiovisual materials (DVDs and Website) in both Spanish and Catalan that was launched in January 2007 with the purpose of improving the quality of life for chronically ill patients. Based on the premise that by having a better understanding of their disease patients can become more autonomous, the project aims to encourage patient involvement in the clinical decision-making process along with the health care team. Priority has been given to diseases of higher prevalence and wider social impact.

Firstly,
the factors for selection for the targeted illnesses include:
the prevalence of the disease,
The existance of any support groups that there may be,
The relevance and current interest of the material produced,
And so on,
Covering many aspects that need to be considered.
And - here we have the results of the applied selection criteria,
these 10 conditions:
7 of which are up and running on our website,
with 3 more ‘in production’.

Each entry is dated, keeping the information current and relevant.
In this example, we can see that the contributions of Jordi Vilaro and Victor Navarro are linked to a quick biography, letting us know their qualifications and credintels.
This all serves to highlight the quality of the information delivered.
As a means of communication, we have found that DVD is the most common and easily accessed medium, reaching more people than the internet alone.

...readability and the lack of local and emotional dimension.
It’s for these last two reasons that we are developing virtual communities or on-line support groups.
