  3. 3. Cioustomer Care : Tipswww.ciousmagz.com8Learn Local Language Learn at least a few words that are often used asgreetings such as ‘selamat pagi’ , ‘apa kabar’ , dan‘terima kasih’Learn The Local Cultures Knowing a little about local culture isn’t actuallyhard. You can learn about the people, try the local food, looking at the traditional crafts, see the ceremonialprocession, and other customs you can find out in thestreet.Bring Enough Cash Credit card is the best option for payment whenyou’re traveling. But in emergencies, bring smallamounts of cash to buy food or snacks because notevery store provides credit card payment.Hotel Service Advantage Hotels usually have services for the guestssuch as transportation services, rental info, and travelinformation. Don’t be afraid to ask for their help if youneed some information for your traveling experience.Bring Printed Map Uh-oh, you’re in the middle of a trip but your GPSis running out of battery? Take pocket-printed-map withyou all the time! Cious magazine has a special littlemap inside to accompany you in your journey.BackupYour Batteries! The seller will probably call you back and giveyou the price you want!I’m Lost! When you lost on a trip, it’s better to ask the localwhere you are and where to go. Balinese people are verykind to tourists and of course-if they can understand whatyou’re saying, they will help you. 19. 19. Marriage is the most sacred moment inour lives. Especially for Indonesian, withtheir hundred of ethnic groups and theirdifferent cultures for marriage ceremony. The traditionalwedding ceremonies and customs will give you a uniqueopportunity to gain insight the culture. Bali is one ofIndonesia provinces which it’s people still uphold theircustoms. They are three kinds of Balinese marriage styles;elopement (ngerorod), more respected (memadik),and when a man moves permanently to his wife’s home(nyentana). Elopement or ngerorod is the most commonstyle for Balinese people, where the couple arrange tomeet somewhere out of sight of the girl’s parents andspend the night together with a rent room of at friend’shouse. Meanwhile the girl resumes her life and her routineand not allowed to return to her parents. Memadik is amarriage style where the boy’s family members come tothe house of the girl’s parents and respectfully ask for theirdaughter to marry the boy. This style usually cost the mostfor the processing and the offerings involved. Nyentanais marriage style where the boy leaves his family for thegirl’s house and finally belongs to the girl’s family. Thishappens because the girl’s parents have no sons to lookafter their property - the man is effective assumed into thefamily to continue the male lineage. Long years ago, when Bali has kingdoms, themarriage system was really strict. Only couples from thesame level were allowed to marry to maintain the purity ofthe level/caste system. For any couple who broke thesemarriage rules was banished from their village and sentout into the jungle for the rest of their days. These days, however, while still very much respected, the level/castesystem is no longer hold such rules over the Balinese.www.ciousmagz.com40Khas BaliBalineseWeddingKhas BaliPie susu Pie susu or ‘milk pie’ in English is one of themost common snack from Bali. 20. 20. Indonesia is famous for the diversion of cultures allover the country. Traditional customs is what willgive a region an identity and dignity. From all theprovinces, Bali has the most respectable customs thanany other province in Indonesia. The dance, the people, the religion, the food, the sacred places, the governmentrules, and especially for this case, the architecture. Balinese architecture is the most sophisticated thingon the face of the earth. This style of architecture isn’t justabout shapes or materials, but it’s also about the storybehind every inch of the brick, the shape or the cravingin the wood or the stones. The architecture style isn’t justbeautiful, it talks. But the modernity has brought people to somethingeasier. To make, to get, to build, and to live in. They believein mass product than self-made. There’s no money andthe time, they said. Besides, the glass looks simpler andelegant than the traditional window. The black flat dooris more way cool than the heavy craving wood door. Nomore statues, no more ornaments. Everything is so sharpand white and cold, just like what the modernity shouldbe. But a lot of future leaders of tomorrow know this. They aware of what will happen if the traditional valuesomehow erased from the people. They will not have theiridentity and dignity. So they keep some of them safe andsound, enough for some other people who can appreciateto see and to preserve. And as the as the nation who canappreciate their own culture, it is our job to keep the onlything remains from our identity.Balinese ArchitectureThe Only Thing RemainsKhas Baliwww.ciousmagz.com42Do’s & Dont’s43Do’sDont’s Forget your passport or any IDs.It’s better to leave your passport and important documentsin your hotel safety box. 23. 23. www.ciousmagz.com54CiouScamPORTERScamswww.ciousmagz.com 55How to NOT get scam? Always take care of your luggage by yourself and never let the porters to carry them for you. Ifyou’re traveling with your friends, divide the work so one of you can wait for the bags in carousel andthe other one can go to find a trolley. If you’re traveling alone, make sure that you can handle the bagyourself, if you’re not able to carry it, then there’s no point to even bring it.How if you get scam? If you are too late to realize that the porter already got you on his hook, all you can do is to let theporter carry the luggage. When they ask for payment, you can tell them that you haven’t changed anyof your money to rupiahs or you can tell him-by agreement- that you only have half the amount of moneyhe’s asking for. Airport porters have been working tohelp tourists to carry their luggagefor years. A porter will approachyou and ask to help you carry your things. Hewill be very friendly, allowing you to think thathe is doing it out in kindness of his heart. But,uh oh! This is a SCAM. Ciouserz must bewareof porters who dressed as officials that ask youto one side and pick up your bag. It’s anothercommon scam which you will see as soon as youenter the airport when retrieving your luggageat the carousel. It’s very hard in Bali to tell thedifference between who is really an official porterofficer or not. However, as soon as you’re readyto go, he will demand money from you. Maybe it’sonly a few dollars, but a few dollars is thousandsin rupiahs. Beware of this tricky scammers guys!

We’re gonna stay here about 3-5 days, we haven’t decided yet. Let it justgo with the flow. But if we love being here so much, we think we’re gonna stay much longer. We came herebecause Bali is famous with one of those romantic places for honeymoons. Tonight we just took a walk andnever planned to dance or come to this place. But the music in here is like a magnet, it took us in. Great club, nice taste of music. Us, just married, and happy!”
