Career Portfolio

  1. 1. CAREER PORTFOLIO The frightening truth
  2. 2. I am graduating into a recession, many  employers are freezing jobs where they can not hire people, and there are many people who are losing their jobs.  I am a victim my I lost my job, the company that I was working for got evicted so everyone lost their jobs.  For this reason I looked up three jobs that I could get quickly when I graduate to generate income because I plan too expect the unexpected
  3. 3.  My dream is to become a Physician Assistant  I enjoy working in the medical field and I have had a chance to experience it when I was able to volunteer with the City of Miami firefighters/paramedics. I have also volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club and at The North Regional Rehabilitation center and exposing myself to different types of people have affirmed that I have the patience and passion to be a Physician Assistant.
  4. 4. When I graduate from the University of  Florida I will not have finished taking the prerequisites to apply to the physician assistants program, therefore, I will be enrolling at the community college to continue to take classes.  Since my goal is to be extremely focused with my school, I want a job that is flexible when I graduate. MEANWHILE…..
  5. 5. Since I want a highly flexible job that is most  likely to be hiring in the middle of a recession, the three jobs that I am interested in are cashier, sales associate, and a certified nurse assistant. A CNA job will be very beneficial to me  because it will expose me to the many sides of the medical field. It could also count as the hours needed to get accepted into the Physician Assistants Program at the University of Florida I need to pay bills!
  6. 6. A cashier is some one who rings up the goods or services that a consumer would like to buy. They are also responsible for receiving and disbursing money.  Cashiers could make a decent amount of money if working in places like Publix or high end restaurants.  Many times cashiering gives you an opportunity to move up in the business.
  7. 7. Where did you work as a cashier? Guthries  Did you like working as a cashier? Yes, it was such an easy  job How much did you get paid? I started off at $7.50 and hour  and then when I got promoted as assistant manager and I started getting paid $9.00. How was it when you got promoted?  I received so many responsibilities, I had to buy things at  Sam’s Club and I had to always be available if someone didn’t show up, that’s what really sucked and I also had to make the deposits. Do you recommend cashiering to anyone? Of course it is an  easy job, yes you have to deal with peoples attitudes from time to time but if you have a bubbly personality and you do not let things get to you, you will be fine. 
  8. 8. Sales Associate  A person who sells products or services for money or other compensation.  They help the customer choose between products  They also help customers look for what they want  They sometimes have to work for commission
  9. 9. Interview: Sales Associate= Mary Williams  Where do you work? At Victoria’s Secret at Oaks Mall  Do you like working there? Oh my God yes, I get free stuff all the time and the discounts are incredible, all I wear is Victoria’s Secret. How much do you get paid as a new employee? Well I started off  making 8 and hour, but I do not know if that is the amount that most people start off at. How do you get treated as an employee? They treat me well, the  shifts are flexible and you get promoted What exactly do you do other than sell? I also promote, sometimes I  am on campus, on the set “Turlington”, promoting Victoria’s Secret; we always have great discounts and giveaways. Do you recommend working as a sales associate? If you have the  patience to deal with customers and do not mind standing all day you should be able to enjoy it.
  10. 10. Certified Nurses Assistant Is a person that helps people with  health care needs and that works under a nurse.  They provide basic nurse procedures  They have a high level of experience and ability but do not have the qualifications of a nurse such as an LPN or RN
  11. 11. Interview: CNA= LeeAnn Brown How long did it take you to become a CNA? Well, I took  a course that lasted about three weeks, they gave me hands on experience and taught me the basics, it was an accelerated course. Where did you work as a CNA? Harborchase  Was it easy to find a job? Yes, specially in a nursing  home because they are so short staffed. How is the pay? It is well, I got started off at 9 in  hour, but you always have the opportunity to work overtime and get time and half sometimes I would make $2000 a month but I would work hard and do a lot of overtime. Did you like the job? It’s fine some people are stuck up  and don’t treat you right because you do the dirty work, but it’s all politics like anywhere else. Do you recommend the job? If you want good pay and  have a strong stomach, yes!
  12. 12. IN CONCLUSION These are the jobs that I am considering  looking into when I graduate  I am graduating into a recession so even if I do work in any of these areas I will be open for new and better things.  I will be saving most of my money to go to PA school which is my ultimate goal.
