READER PROFILE
Research into reader profiles
of other magazines
In my research, I have looked at the reader
profile of the NME magazine:
                                              26         Male
•Research shows that 74% of their readers     %

are male, while the other 26% are female.          74%   Female
•Their median age is 23 and from their
research, it ranges from 18 years old to 35
years old.
                                                         Full-time
•52% of readers are working full time,
29% are still studying, 7% are working                   Part-time

part time and the other 12% are other                    Still
•It shows that readers are in full                       studying
                                                         Other
agreement that, they spend a lot, it is
important to be well informed, its worth
paying for the extra quality and it is
important to look well dressed.

 Other things that the NME reader profile
  shows, is their other interests, such as:
  - Film’s and DVD’s ETC.
  - Video Games
  - Fashion and Beauty
  - Internet (Such as social networks and
  youtube)
How will this affect my
ideas?
 In comparison to the NME reader profile, I am hoping to
  get a target audience/population that are similar to
  that, the likes of 16 to 30 year olds, so it can cover those
  in education and a part of the adult community.
 The NME also covers other industries within its
  magazine, but there is a much smaller focus on it, this
  can entice another audience that enjoy those
  industries, and are looking to learn more about the music
  magazine industry. I can use this to fill some of the pages
  in my magazine, add more interesting content and
  also, branch out to a more distinct audience.

   In my research, the second magazine

   60% of the audience of the Rolling
    stones magazine are males, which
    means the other 40% are females, this is
    very different to the NME                             Age
    magazine, which had a very male
    dominant audience of 74%

   The average age of reader is 35.5 years              25%
    old, which is very different to the NME                          25 to 34
    audience age of 23 years old.              19%                   35 to 44
   70% of the audience are working and                  23%         45 to 54
    12% are in education, the other 18% are      20%                 55+
    currently unemployed.
How will this affect my
ideas?
 With the median age of 35.5 years old, this shows that an
  older audience are still interested in this genre of
  magazine. So it something to look to influence my ideas.
 Also they have a more balanced gender range than
  NME, so I may need to include a more level balance
  between, male and female, but still have a focus on
  males, as they are obviously more interested in this kind
  of magazine.
 Also there is another focus on people that are in work so
  it may be an idea to change the amount of content in it
  and what I include.
