Sec 1 Stevenson Screen

  1. 1. Stevenson Screen
  2. 2. What is a Stevenson screen?  A white wooden box with louvres to shelter thermometers from direct heat of the Sun and allow air circulation.
  3. 3. What is placed inside the Stevenson screen?
  4. 4. Where should Stevenson screen be placed?
  5. 5. Where should Stevenson screen be placed?  It should be place 1m above the ground level  to prevent heat conduction from the ground.  Thermometers will not be affected by heat radiating from the ground
  6. 6.  Located away from building or trees  Building and trees provide shade, causing the reading to be inaccurate
  7. 7. Where should Stevenson screen be placed?  On grass and not concrete ground  toreduce heat conduction from the concrete ground.
  8. 8. Why are there louvres and holes on the Stevenson screen?  Allow air circulation  Therefore hot air will not be trapped in it  Causing reading to be inaccurate
  9. 9. Why it is painted white?  White colour reflect heat from the Sun.  Therefore reading will be accurate.
