  3. 3. What is wind? <ul><li>Refers to the movement of air over the surface of the Earth. </li></ul><ul><li>Warm air rises, cool air sink </li></ul>

  5. 8. Measuring of wind speed <ul><li>Wind speed is measured using an anemometer . </li></ul>
  6. 9. Beaufort Scale <ul><li>Wind speed can be estimated by sight. This can be done by referring to the Beaufort Scale . </li></ul><ul><ul><li>By looking at the effect of the wind on the landscape and cross-referencing it to the scale, the speed of the wind can be approximated. </li></ul></ul>
  7. 10. How you tell wind direction? <ul><li>Is shown by a freely moving pointer on a wind vane. </li></ul><ul><li>E.g. if the wind is blowing from the east, the pointer will point to the east. </li></ul>

  9. 12. Where is a wind vane placed? <ul><li>Placed on a high and open place such as rooftop. </li></ul><ul><li>There is very little obstruction to the flow of the wind. </li></ul><ul><li>The wind direction can be seen clearly by everyone. </li></ul>

  11. 14. <ul><li>Which direction does the wind blow most often from? </li></ul><ul><li>Which direction had the least number of day of wind blowing from? </li></ul><ul><li>What does the number ‘4’ stand for? </li></ul>

Wind rose <ul><li>Each of the small squares represents the days of the month where wind was observed to blow from. </li></ul><ul><li>The longer the arm, the more frequent the wind is blowing from this certain direction. This known as the prevailing wind direction. </li></ul><ul><li>The number in the centre of the rose is the number of days where no wind was blowing during the period of observation. </li></ul>
