Our department is doing a book study on The Starbucks Experience by Joseph Michelli, PhD. (See http://www.starbucksexperience.net/.) After reading the section on how Starbucks leaders “emphasize, train, and encourage a respect for the discretion and uniqueness of their staff”, I asked each member of our department to give a one-word descriptor of each of their department colleagues. Having assembled each other’s words atop a coffee bean background and a photo from the infamous “Green Apron Book”, I handed each a copy of their uniqueness.
