This project originated out of my [Dorea’s] internship requirement for my [her] Masters with Valdosta State University. Utilizing skills developed during the course of the Master’s program, we decided to set up the Internship to help the Darton College Library. After much deliberation between us, we decided to focus on the information literacy skills of the campus, and create tutorials that could be utilized by Darton Faculty, Staff, and students (including on campus and online students).
We’ve had multiple small goals that have been accomplished as we’ve worked on this project. The first step was to develop the transcripts. Transcripts are basically a script for what we say when we record the videos. After we record the videos, we convert them into Flash files so that they are a standard format that is viewable by a larger portion of the population. Next we develop web pages that house the videos as well as copies of the transcripts (which helps with ADA compliance, as well as for learners who do better with reading, and additionally allowing people to print out a copy to reference in the future). And finally we developed a series of quizzes for users to take after viewing the tutorials.
