ReflectionOver the past sixteen months my experience at Argosy University has taught me to be resillient. As a wife, mother, employee and volunteer, the needs of others preceded mine. Being a mature adult, I have taken the time to prioritize my education. While originally I thought my path was Kinesiology, I now realize it was always psychology. Yet, if I hadn’t first studied movement of the human body I would not have found my passion, sports psychology. This spring,I will complete my undergraduate degree and begin a new journey, pursuit of a graduate degree. This has only been possible through the support not only of my family but my professors, mentors and fellow students to which I owe a debt of gratitude.

Critical ThinkingTIME MANAGEMENT FOR YOUTH SPORTS COACHES MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR TIME WITH YOUR TEAM
The importance of time management with a youth team,is often underestimated. In professional sports, theemphasis is placed on the athlete’s ability and often to alesser degree the coaches aptitude. Conversely, andrightfully so, in youth sports the emphasis is on thecoach’s ability to train his young athletes. There are several strategies that are often employed bycoaches. The first is the casual “fly by the seat of yourpants” coaching style. While the coach is oftenexperienced, nothing is planned and thus the time theyspend with their youth athlete is ineffective. The secondstrategy is the planned training session. During thissession the time is planned out to allow the coach tostress the importance of weakness in the athletesperformance. We will explore how to utilize the planned trainingsession with relation to time management aspects of aprogram.

Long term versus Short term goal Long term goal Short term goal As a youth coach your longterm goal may be as simple In the example ofas to teach the children the soccer, teaching yourbasics of the game your are team to control the ballplaying. This is completely before passing it could bedependent on the age a short term goal. Whilegroup with which you areworking. this seems simplistic, theIt may also be as complex basics of a sport are oftenas teaching your players ignored and eventuallyoffensive strategies. Either affect a players game.way both can be formidablegoals.
SCHEDULING A PRACTICE SESSION Plan the session by preparing what you will do Arrive early enough to organize your practice ( physically set up ) Greet your players. Let them know what to expect for this practice and when it will end.
Start practice with a warm up session (light run and stretching) Begin with skills and drills explaining them along the way Reinforce what you just taught your players- have them repeat it back to you . Show them how this relates to the game Cool down after your workout Review yourand stretch. This is a good time expectations for to again review what you just next session or learned. game
How can I be certainthat my training STEPS TO SUCCESSFULsession is most PRACTICE SESSIONSeffective? The easiest way is to look at how youspent your time. SCHEDULEYou have already organized the sessionand physically set it up. Now you must ORGANIZEevaluate it to see where you canimprove on time. EXECUTESchedule time for each segment of yourpractice.
