Hajj is performed once in a year in the month of zil-hajj. Other than period of hajj if a person goes to the Holy Kaaba and performs the rituals then this is called lesser or minor pilgrimage or Umrah and it is performed at any time throughout the year. The thing to be noted is that during hajj, umrah is performed as a necessary ritual of hajj. But other than hajj, umrah is not an obligatory worship (ibadah), though it is of huge reward.

Important guidance of performing hajj and umrah

  1. 1. Important Guidance of Performing Hajj and Umrah Among the worships in religion Islam, one act of worship (ibadah) is to perform hajj. This is obligatory on those people who can afford. In pilgrimage, Muslims go to Holy Makkah and Madina to perform and complete all the rituals of hajj. The hajj is completed in city Makkah, in Holy Kaaba. There is not other place on this earth that can be taken as to be visited as hajj. If you find people visiting Israel and Iran or any other place and than they call their trip or visit as hajj then they are wrong and untruth is their purpose. Performing umrah is a Sunnah (Sunnah is following the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH): umrah is neither imperative nor obligatory, but performing umrah once in a life time is a Sunnah. Though, once or more than one time, whenever Umrah is performed, it fetches huge rewards. No Fixed Time: Umrah can be performed anytime during the whole year; there is not any fixed month, day or time for performing umrah as the case with Hajj, as said previous. Ihraam: The outsiders, (comers) who come to Holy Makkah for Hajj and umrah must already be in
  2. 2. Ihraam before entering into city Makkah. Though, for subsequent Umrahs, even they have to go to outside Makkah to put on Ihraam. The rights of performing umrah are - Entering into the state of Ihraam - Tawaaf or circumambulation of Holy Kaabah - Saaee (running) between the hills of Safa and Marwah - Shaving and clipping of the head hair (after you complete the umrah) In umrah, the shatans are not stoned (Rami al jamaraat) as they are stoned in hajj and during umrah the visit of madina is not made like hajj. Nor the visit to muzdalfah and Arafat is made. Sacrifice or qurbani is also not done in umrah. umrah should be performed appropriately so that is could be accepted. You must be already in Ihram for umrah before entering in Holy Makkah, perform two rakahs nafil namaz at maqam-e-ibraheem. Proclaim Talbiyah three times and as often afterwards as feasible. While reciting Talbiyah, enter in Al- Masjid Al-Haram if possible through Bab Al Salam. Supplicate to ALLAH Almighty and proceed towards Holy Kaabah.
