  4. 4. MESSAGE OF POPE FRANCIS FOR THE 48TH WORLD COMMUNICATIONS DAY Communication at the Service of an Authentic Culture of Encounter “The internet, in particular, offers immense possibilities for encounter and solidarity. This is something truly good, a gift from God.”

Adult Faith Formation for the 21st Century According to John Roberto, “We are experiencing a convergence of new information and communication technologies with digital resources that are beginning to transform contemporary life and learning, and have the potential to transform faith formation.”
  6. 6. Pilot Objectives 1. Create a multi-parish collaborative effort utilizing current and trending technology solutions. 2. Cultivate an environment to promote strategic development of new initiatives and enhance/expand parish ministries by fostering partnerships, enabling functional integration and utilization of shared resources. 3. Utilize change management strategies to foster parish visioning and strategic decision making to increase the long-term benefits of the project for participating parishes.

STEP ONE: For our parish… If the application of technology could solve one issue or challenge that you or your parish is experiencing right now in the following areas, what would that be? • Catholic Faith Formation • Communication within the Parish Community & Leaders (both staff and volunteers) • Ministry Collaboration within your parish groups and among other parishes in your area
  9. 9. SHARING OF PARISH GOALS

Our Lady of Lourdes 1-Get additional training in Google apps for parish staff and ministry leaders (3.5). 2-Get additional training in Facebook and other social media apps for parish leaders to encourage their use by a variety of ministries within the parish (3.5, 3.7). 3-Assess parishioners preferred methods of communication ie. Social media, email, texting, telephone calling, etc. in order to communicate about parish events, funerals, etc. (2.4). 4-Test out a scheduling app, “MinistrE-Space” for reserving parish facilities (2.2). 5-Development of a parish social media group/committee to facilitate better use of website and parish social media sites. 6-Begin process for sharing Sunday homilies online (1.5). 7-Explore using QR codes in the parish bulletin to communicate about various aspects of parish life including liturgical minister schedules (1.3, 2.4). 8-Develop an accessible parish database and shared ministry calendar with both the parish and school that can be updated by a variety of ministry leaders (2.3, 2.7). 9-Seek out ways to collaborate with other parishes in the cluster on the reaching out to youth, young adults, and families via social media (1.6). 10-Develop a virtual tour of the church. 11-Inform and educate the parish and school communities of the opportunities to grow in faith via digital and mobile technology.

St. Euphrasia 1-Provide parents information and formation online so they can continue the forming their children before, during, and after a sacramental preparation class (1.3). 2-Engage young people and families including those recently confirmed in matters of faith through using social media and texting technologies (1.3). 3-Identify and test technology solutions for scheduling volunteers for Sunday liturgy such as lectors, Eucharistic ministers, and ushers (2.1). 4-Assess parishioners preferred methods of communication ie. Social media, email, texting, telephone calling, etc. in order to communicate about parish events, funerals, etc. (2.4). 5-Get additional training in Google apps for parish staff and ministry leaders (3.5). Explore online giving options (2.7). 6-Develop an improved online presence for the parish by developing a new parish website. 7-Inform and educate the parish and school communities of the opportunities to grow in faith via digital and mobile technology.

St. Mels 1-Explore using QR codes in the parish bulletin to communicate about various parish ministries and into the local newspaper to reach out to fallen away Catholics (1.3, 2.4). 2-Assess parishioners preferred methods of communication ie. Social media, email, texting, telephone calling, etc. in order to communicate about parish events (2.4). 3-Create a media explanation of ministries in parish in order to get more parishioners involved in the mission of the parish especially for bereavement ministry. 4-Get additional training in Facebook and other social media apps for parish leaders to encourage their use by a variety of ministries within the parish (3.5, 3.7). 5-Follow-up with parents of newly baptized infants/children using technology and social media. 7-Inform and educate the parish and school communities of the opportunities to grow in faith via digital and mobile technology. 8-Develop an improved outreach to parishioners using social media.

QR codes, ministry scheduling software)  Continuing Education for volunteers and staff
