FACIAL ACTION CODING SYSTEM The Facial Action Coding System or FACS is used to identify facial expression This identifies the muscles that produce the facial expressions This system measures the relaxation or contraction of each individual muscle Generally includes facial expressions which cannot be easily manipulated

MICRO-EXPRESSIONS A micro-expression is a brief, involuntary facial expression shown on the face of humans according to emotions experienced. They usually occur in high-stakes situations, where people have something to lose or gain. They are very brief in duration, lasting only 1/25 to 1/15 of a second

LIAR! Paul Ekman’s success rate in 80-90% Speech doesnt fit voice, voice doesnt fit face, face doesnt fit body movement. Form a baseline, look for microexpressions. Some common ways are speech hesistant, swallows, think an answer, shoulder shrug, etc. These rules change for anxious and low self confidence people.

POSSIBILITY OF VARIATION Perception of facial expression changes with the background. FACS included images cropped to the face Perception of change with darkness and lightness of image FACS converted images into gray scale before the study Perception variation with a glance FACS rated the face with various power and leadership traits. In FACS every image is converted into standardized size which help in better discerning the negative and positive attributes of a face
