Text messaging (SMS) has established itself as a main communication tool for teens and adults. These users want their questions answered from anywhere and at anytime. As library users grow more comfortable with text messaging, libraries have a unique opportunity to communicate directly with their users via mobile devices. Join Chad Mairn, Diana Silveira, and Mark Opyd from Novare Library Services to learn how to implement, using Twilio, a low-cost text reference service similar to Florida’s Ask a Librarian service that can work in any library setting as well as other inexpensive and innovative ideas to augment your library’s resources and services with SMS. This was presented July 28, 2011 at the Handheld Librarian Online Conference.
