  4. 4. Taholah, Day 1<br />3/17/2011<br />Tribal Journey 2006<br />We are meant to pull (paddle) about 40 miles, which is usually as tough as it gets. <br />
  5. 5. Taholah, cont’d<br />3/17/2011<br />Tribal Journey 2006<br />However, due to rough weather our support boat must tie us to them and pull us ahead of the storm.<br />
  6. 6. Taholah cont’d<br />3/17/2011<br />Tribal Journey 2006<br />We end up pulling less than 30 miles, and a few of us are either sea sick or experiencing vertigofrom traveling on rough seas at high speeds.<br />
  7. 7. La Push: Night 1, Day 2<br />Time for Protocol!<br />3/17/2011<br />Tribal Journey 2006<br />The Skipper asks permission to come ashore…<br />…and we’re given permission by the tribal leader.<br />After the host provides dinner, we sing and dance until late in the night!<br />
  8. 8. Neah Bay: Makah Reservation<br />3/17/2011<br />Tribal Journey 2006<br />People begin to gather on the beach to see the canoes coming in!<br />
  9. 9. Neah Bay Cont’d<br />An older man offers his bathroom to our canoe family. He is in a wheel chair.<br />We return the favor by lifting him into the canoe and paddling to the middle of the Bay to watch the sunset. <br />He was extremely grateful…Just look at that view!<br />3/17/2011<br />Tribal Journey 2006<br />

  11. 11. Seattle Landing & Muckleshoot Reservation<br />3/17/2011<br />Tribal Journey 2006<br />70+ canoes pull into Lake Washington after coming through the Ballard Locks in August 2006.<br />At the Muckleshoot Reservation there will be 5 days of singing and dancing!<br />
