Company & product description
Mandaê is the easiest way to ship what you want. If you have an item to ship, take
a photo of it with our mobile app, and we’ll come by to pick it up within one hour,
package it and ship it for you. No more worrying about packaging, carrying stuff to
the post office, or waiting in lines!
You pay just the same price that the post office charges, plus a small pickup fee of
R$ 10 that’s waived if you ship more than one item.
We’re currently operating in beta with customers in the Greater São Paulo area.
To receive an invite, please sign up at www.mandae.com.br. For further
information, you can read our FAQ (http://mandae.com.br/faq.html), send an
email to contato@mandae.com.br or call us at +55 (11) 2615-4532. We’re
located in the Pinheiros neighborhood of São Paulo, next to the Faria Lima
subway station.
Our story
Before launching Mandaê, we (co-founders Karim Hardane and Marcelo
Fujimoto) ran an e-commerce startup in Brazil, where we personally packaged
and shipped thousands of items. We learned first-hand how big of a pain point
logistics can be, so we created Mandaê to solve this huge problem. Our mission is
to turn shipping into a more simple, delightful experience for our users.
Karim was previously an Entrepreneur in Residence and mentor at 21212, one of
Brazil’s top startup accelerators, and the Director of the UK office of Wimdu, a
Rocket Internet company.
http://linkedin.com/in/karimhardane
Marcelo was a private equity investor in the U.S. He began his career in the
investment banking group of JPMorgan in NYC, with a focus on transport &
logistics companies.
http://linkedin.com/in/marcelofujimoto
Business model
We make our margins based on volume discounts we obtain from the
transporters, which can reach up to 70% in some cases. (Customers pay the full,
normal rates that the Correios charges.)
We believe this model is a win-win for our users and transporters. By automating
shipping processes and aggregating volume, we generate cost-savings for the
transporters we work with (including the Correios). In addition, by offering a
service that makes shipping easy, we help more people ship more stuff,
which in turn generates greater net revenues for the transporters. Several of
our beta customers have told us that the only reason why they shipped their stuff
is because we made it so easy for them.
The market opportunity
Our target markets include: (1) Small businesses and e-commerce; (2) Online
power sellers; and (3) Individuals.
Over 200 million small packages are sent annually in Brazil, which represents
a segmented addressable market of R$ 10 billion.
Over 40% of this market is due to online sales of products, a subsegment
that’s growing 25% per year. The remainder is comprised of individuals and
other businesses.
There are over 30,000 e-commerce stores in Brazil and over 3 million
people that sell on platforms such as MercadoLivre, OLX, Elo7 and others.
The vast majority of them ship small volumes, yet represent an estimated
customer lifetime value of over R$ 1.500 for Mandaê.
Some info & stats about Mandaê so far
We began operating in private beta one month ago (early April), and
we’ve shipped hundreds of items for our customers already.
We’ve helped our customers ship all sorts of items, including documents,
clothing, and even larger items including small furniture and paintings.
70%: Of our customers are e-commerce or small businesses.
7.9 items: Average # of items per pickup.
R$ 190: Average revenues per pickup.
In March 2014, we successfully closed a series seed round from Kima
Ventures, Hans Hickler and others.
Kima Ventures is a Paris, France-based seed fund and one of the
world’s most active startup investors. Mandaê is Kima’s first Brazilian
investment. http://kimaventures.com
Hans Hickler is the ex-CEO of DHL Express – USA and a
recognized leader in the logistics and transportation industry. Hans is
also an advisor to Mandaê.

http://linkedin.com/in/karimhardane

A Mandaê é o
primeiro investimento deles no Brasil. http://kimaventures.com
