Media Technologies

 1. 1. MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES
Taking the pictures for our magazine cover and poster, we used my Canon SLR EOS 1000D. The quality of this cameras photographs are high and so would give our ancillary tasks a higher quality finish over all and also look a lot more professional.
To produce the film poster I chose to use Adobe Photoshop CS3 as I know it is a professional software that people use in the media industry so would be a good idea to enhance my experience with the software and expand on my editing skills from last year as well as create a different form of media product.
Initially it was difficult to use so I relied on Youtube video tutorials as mentioned in my blog here.
2. 2. MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES
Final Cut Express is the application we used on the Apple Macs to edit all our footage and create the teaser trailer. I was also not familiar with this product so had to watch Youtube videos such as the one featured here to explore the different tools and effects. I was also aware that this was a professional editing software and as last year in AS I used iMovie to edit which was a pretty standard and basic application, I thought this would help me to progress, develop my skills working with a range of more complex media software and improve the standard of work produced.
When collecting the footage for our teaser trailers we used a handheld Toshiba video camera. These cameras were simple and easy to use, with the use of a tripod the filming of the pan shot across the ‘tea party’ was steady and coherent; though during editing we deliberately made the footage jumpy and jittery for the dramatic effect of our trailer.
3. 3. MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES
Garage Band was another useful application which played a vital role in our production as it allowed me and Jodie to create sounds to maximise the impact of our trailer as sound is a key feature in building up a sense of the mood of our film. The ‘whooshing’ sound at the beginning was created by cutting a short extract from a longer music clip.
The whispering is a recording I made of myself and Jodie whispering and making noises, we layered different recordings on top of each other to create the illusion that there were more people. This post talks about it in more depth.
Finally, the screaming at the end of the trailer we recorded the sounds from a Youtube video into garage band, then applied it to Final Cut, cropping the sound into the appropriate length.
