  3. 3. Let’s say surly, opinionated things.
  4. 4. Wikipedia is straight crap. <ul><li>Okay, only sometimes. </li></ul><ul><li>They don’t define an UnCamp… </li></ul><ul><li>so let’s try: </li></ul><ul><li>UnConference </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>An unconference is a facilitated, participant-driven conference centered around a theme or purpose. The term &quot;unconference&quot; has been applied, or self-applied, to a wide range of gatherings that try to avoid one or more aspects of a conventional conference, such as high fees and sponsored presentations. </li></ul>
  6. 6. It’s still early. Yeah, um, I’ll break that down.
  7. 7. This is a free conference. <ul><li>But you knew that already. </li></ul>
  8. 8. This was all planned on the fly by four working girls. <ul><li>Not the corner. The reference desk. </li></ul>You people are real sickos.
  9. 9. <ul><li>It’s a participant driven event. </li></ul><ul><li>More often than not you will be: </li></ul>The audience The speaker The expert The novice All in the same session.
  10. 10. <ul><li>In a moment, you’re going to decide on what topics you’ll be talking about. </li></ul>Chime in now… Or be bored later. Don’t be shy!
  11. 11. <ul><li>Best electronic resources for macrame and paper mache, </li></ul><ul><li>anyone? </li></ul>Kidding… Sorta.
  12. 12. Things to know… <ul><li>There will be a moderator (or two) in each session… </li></ul>not to lead , but to guide conversation.
  13. 13. <ul><li>Stay on topic for your session: </li></ul><ul><li>‘ nuff said </li></ul><ul><li>Mind your manners: </li></ul><ul><li>minimize side conversations </li></ul><ul><li>Make sure others have the floor: </li></ul><ul><li>keep an eye out for the quiet ones </li></ul><ul><li>And when you have the floor, </li></ul><ul><li>don’t get too long-winded, k? </li></ul>
