Art Task: Figurative Artists ResearchFrancis BaconI chose these pieces of artwork because I liked the representation of character and the layout. I likethe use of colours and flat tones and shades. The images are not realistic of the human form, but show a more disfigured, mutilated presence andreflect an intense emotion.Gustav KlimtI chose these images because I liked the way the artist has portrayed the women. I like the portraitlayout and the way the characters are standing boldly and almost intimidatingly. He has used dull, similar tones and colours in both pieces of work to make them flow better and asimilar style and technique. He has used differential strokes of the brush to create a complex piecealtogether by overlapping colour and markings.
Pablo PicassoI chose these pieces of artwork because I liked the way that the artist has used bold block coloursand odd shapes to make up the piece of work. I like the way the face is laid out and the number oflines and lack of shading. It is unrealistic abstract work, and in an almost cartoonish fashion.Eric ZenerI chose these pieces of work because I liked the modern photo realism in the way he has createdthem. Both pieces show an intense amount of detail and realistic presence. The colour hues are allsimilar depending on the specific piece, showing continuity with each image.I find the way the artist has laid them out interesting, with the stance and position of the people andthe angle it is at.
Jason De Caires TaylorI chose these pieces of work because the way the artist has created this work is unique andintriguing as it is rare for an artist to explore figurative modelling under water. The pieces of workshow depth and intricate detail with each individual statue which are quite realistic. My own researched figurative artists: Sigmund AblesI chose this artist specifically because I thought his style of creating art was interesting. The firstimage of a man holding a mask appealed to me because of the bright contrasting colours and the 2Dside on angle. It shows a side of a different country and culture, and way of life, set in Africa. The next image I chose because I liked the layout and the way it seems more like it should be in arealistic horror comic. I like the soft colours and mellow tone used throughout the piece whichcreates a dull, gloomy mood. The lighter yellow and orange hues shown on the lampshade and theboys’ face create a more light-hearted feel, which is supported by his mischievous expressions.
Jason Shawn AlexanderI chose these pieces of work because the dark, disturbing feel was inventive and eye catching. Theimage on the left which is a more abstract version of a figure uses bold, strong colours togetherwhich are all a darker hue including black, red and dark brown. The figure on the right appealed to me because of the vibrant contrast between the white skin andpitch black background. It has a looming, foreboding feel about it. The style is clearly realistic, andthe contents represent a horror linked feel.Steven C LayneI chose this artist because I liked his almost archaic, medieval style of working and how thesculptures were very simple but realistic to the human form. The statue on the left was made using clay, and is of an old time Japanese warrior. The way the manboldly stands gives a strong presence, and the rough texture of the skin adds to the detail; it’s almostas though he has been in battle and is covered in scars. The sculpture on the right appealed to me for similar reasons as the one before. Its’ square, roboticlimbs and hinges for joints of the body reflect a stiff, inhuman feel yet still it appears human realisticand reflects the young innocence of the small child.
Lauren MillsThis artist appealed to me because I enjoyed the innocent, unique style and technique she had andhow she made all her work personal to her. The paintings use similar styles, with dull hues and softcolours, and a different point of view. I liked the bronze sculpture of the elderly woman because itshowed detail and embodied personality and character.Belgin YucelenI chose these sculptures because I liked the abstract approach with the human form and the way theartist set them out and the position they are standing in.I liked the use of different colours for the materials in building the sculptures and the scenes they areset in.
