11. 11. Choosing the right service You want your 9th grade class to share links about 'The Odyssey'. Many of them have Yahoo! accounts for email. You want to manage links to scholarly publications for your research. You want to save links to hobby sites to share with friends, and travel sites to share with family.
 12. 12. Choosing the right service If many of your students have Yahoo! accounts for email, Delicious is a good choice. For a college course, choose CiteULike to manage links to scholarly publications. You might want to save links to your favorite hobby sites, travel sites or news sources. Digg might be perfect for you and your friends. Note: Comments found on Digg may not be appropriate for children.
 13. 13. To share or not to share

Remember:

Social = people

Bookmarks = resources

You can keep your account private, to store resources for yourself, but sharing is the key feature of these tools.

Each site has similar sharing features.

You can share bookmarks by sharing the URL to your profile

You can create an RSS feed of your bookmarks so others may subscribe to it, or post it on your website or blog

Find out more

Each site has its own user info section.

On Digg.com, look for 'About'

On Delicious.com, look for 'Learn More' and 'Help'

On CiteULike.org, look for 'FAQ' (frequently asked questions)

Exercise 2

Choose the site you like best.

Take notes as you do the following:

Find out how to submit a new link/resource

Find out how to share your bookmarks

Find out about security features

what security features are good for you?

what security features are good for your students?

No need to set up an account to do this. Help info is freely available .
 15. 15. Get started

Creating a profile is easy.

With Delicious, you can use an exisiting Yahoo! account

Remember: These are networks of people sharing resources, so think of it like a club and find the 'join' or 'register' tab on a chosen site

Fill out the form as instructed

Select privacy options that suit your needs

Use the 'help' section if you have problems
