Endangered marine animals

 1. 1. ENDANGERED MARINE ANIMALS MIGUEL BALLESTEROS HERRAIZ, 4ºA
 2. 2. KEY WORDS

Ecosystem

Animals

Vegetables

Species

Whales

Seals

Turtles

Oil

Pollution

Lakes, seas, oceans, rivers…

 3. 3. INTRODUCTION

In the last centuries, Technology has avanced fastly, and we had a considerable impact on the ecosystems destruction.

Today ,we’re beginning to change, and we want to save marine animals and their ecosystems.

 4. 4. INTRODUCTION

In this process, whales and dolphins have been hunted near till their extinction.

Turtles, fish and seals have been hunted too because they are good “material” to make products that we consume.

 5. 5. ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Sea-lion, Steller (Eumetopias jubatus)

 6. 6. ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Seal, Caribbean monk (Monachus tropicalis)

 7. 7. ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Seal, guadalupe fur (Arctocephalus townsendi)

 9. 9. ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Seal, Mediterranean monk (Monachus monachus)

 10. 10. ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Whale, blue (Balaenoptera musculus)

 11. 11. ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Whale, bowhead (Balaena mysticetus)

 12. 12. ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Whale, finback (Balaenoptera physalus)

 13. 13. ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Whale, right (Balaena glacialis (incl. australis))

 14. 14. ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Whale, sperm (Physeter macrocephalus (=catodon))

 15. 15. ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Salmon, chinook (Sacramento R. winter run)Oncorhynchus tshawytscha)

 16. 16. ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Salmon, sockeye (Oncorhynchus nerka)

 17. 17. ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Sturgeon, shortnose (Acipenser brevirostrum)

 18. 18. ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Carey, Turtle ( Eretmochelys imbricata )

 19. 19. ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Hammerhead shark ( mokarran Sphyrna )

 20. 20. ENDANGERED ANIMALS

Gulf of California porpoise ( Phocoena sinus )

 21. 21. CAUSES

Rivers, seas, oceans and lakes contamination:

With oil: we throw into the sea 4 million tons of oil .

With acid rain: vegetables and animals have been afected for this kind of rain. Fish poblations have been reduced and in the worst case, they have disappeared.

 22. 22. CAUSES

Organic waste: when these types of waste are in excess, the number of bacerias grow and take all the oxygen.

Inorganic chemicals

Inorganic vegetables nutrients

 23. 23. CAUSES

Sediment.

Radioactive materials.

Thermal pollution: hot water produced by power plants increase rivers, lakes, seas and oceans water temperature

 24. 24. CAUSES

Overfishing

The introduction of foreign species : humans introduce foreign species and they must adapt to that different ecosystem, so, trophic chains change.

 25. 25. SOLUTIONS

Oil is the most important cause of the species disappearance, so we can do the following for prevent oil spill:

-Reuse oil and fats.

-Use and waste less oil.

- Prohibit oil drilling in ecologically sensitive areas to pollution .
