Advantages and disadvantages of web 2.0

  2. 2. What are the Web 2.0 Tools? Applications-Technologies that have contribute to the change of the Internet and the way that the client-server model work. All the means that offer to the web pages the ability to be dynamic and collaborative and to the users the ability to be collaborative and form a web page according to their own needs rather than be passive and just read what web pages creators are writing.

What this activity is about? At a previous activity each of the people of this group has made its own list about Web 2.0 Tools of Collaboration that they use in their everyday life, both for job purpose, for communicating or just for fun. For the purpose activity the people of the group had a conversation in which they combined the tools that they both use. In conjunction to that they made some lists about the ways that all those tools have enhanced their everyday life. Finally, because everything has both a good and a bad side, the members of the group discussed about advantages and disadvantages that have discerned throughout the use of the tools. After the end of the discussion the following board has came up:

Opportunity to find out about web pages, that otherwise wouldn’t know about. •Provides a Great variety of information, both in number and type, just in one click. •Ability to search information that have appeared recently. •Easy to handle. •Results that do not always adhere to what is asked. •Results’ reliability into question. •Lack of control in the results referring to highly controversial issues (e.g. drugs, anorexia nervosa)

List of Tools of CollaborationTYPE OF WEB 2.0 TOOL EXAMPLE HOW IT HAS ENHANCED MY WORK/LIFE ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES •Sharing Websites •Youtube •Metacafe •Ability of access into lots of different material (video, presentation, music) for my work as a trainer •Later viewing of a concert, debate, conference, and so on . •Great Variety of videos that it is not achievable to find everywhere else. •Good quality for image and video •Free to post and share familiar or personal videos •Finding videos with the same subject just by classifying •Possibility to post videos with pornographic, racist or prejudicial nature, scenes of violence. •A way of helping music piracy, in conjunction with free download software that you can easily find on the Internet. •Ability to post only videos that are short in duration, in cases you want to see a video with longer duration you have to search for all of their parts.

List of Tools of CollaborationTYPE OF WEB 2.0 TOOL EXAMPLE HOW IT HAS ENHANCED MY WORK/LIFE ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES •E-mail •Gmail •Yahoo •Hotmail •For use throughout the day, for almost everything: schedule dinner with friends, send budget to customers, receive orders, receive information about the training groups, send information (reports, news, etc.) •Mail gives the ability to receive newsletters for many resources with very interesting issues, without the need to look at each web page every once in a while. •Easy to use, you may send the same information for various people without revealing the e-mails (through BCC) •Allows excluding spam and another filters •Cheap-Free of charge •Allow attaching lots of documents in different types •Searching for a job: Upload your CV in pages that carry job advertisements and then those web pages send you a daily list of open jobs that may fit to your interests. •The answer isn’t immediate •Easy to send viruses and fraud in inducing •It has become easy for personal data - such as e-mail address- to transpire and become known to spams and businesses that want to create databases, but without permission.

To sum up… Technology is updating every day even more, but always around one standard: give the ability to businesses and every day people to plan their tasks, communicate with friends, collaborate with other people and amass information through every kind of machine that can use the internet. Maybe this is a way to assimilate more easy globalization in our everyday life and downrate distance even more. Maybe it is just one more risk which will make people trapped and without the right to private life. If this new situation is good or bad is too soon to tell. The only thing that is sure is that the only way to apply those new technologies in our everyday life is Web 2.0 Tool. Apart from their advantages and their disadvantages they are the window to what we call Web 2.0 World and a great new experience to follow, at least for now…
