  4. 4. New Cars 2011 all know that the most important element of atuning project hinges on whether the tuning companyplayed around with the car’s engine. Sure, aesthetic and New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011aerodynamic modifications make for great eye candy, but for the most part, the joy still lies on what kind of 3
  5. 5. New Cars 2011 upgrades are done on the car.MR Car Design opted to go to this route with their latestupgrade for the suave and sexy Maserati Quattroporte. With a powertrain that features a 4.6-liter Ferrari V8engine, MR Car Design gave the engine a software New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011upgrade while also adding a new custom exhaustsystem, bumping up the luxury saloon’s output from 400horsepower and 339 lb/ft of torque all the way up to 430ponies and 361 lb/ft of torque. 4
  6. 6. New Cars 2011 the program doesn’t have a whole lot of aestheticand aerodynamic changes, the German tunernevertheless gave it a few tweaks here and there, including tinted windows, new tail pipe designs, a set ofadjustable H&R sport springs that lowered the rideheight by 20 to 30mm, and a set of 22” Vossen alloywheels wrapped in 245/30 R22 tires at the front and295/25 R22 tires at the back. For a car like the Maserati Quattroporte, sometimessubtle is the way to go. Of course, it’s always a plus ifthe car’s already powerful engine gets a bump up too. New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011 5
  7. 7. New Cars 2011, so this isn’t exactly the most surprising news ofthe day, but it sure ranks up there with the coolest. Audiis said to be launching a Spyder version for the R8 GT atthe Frankfurt Motor Show this Fall. As with the coupeversion, the Spyder will be limited to 333 units andshould be priced at about $20,000 higher than the coupe, which is sold for about $196,800 in the U.S. Thesimilarities will even extend to the number of unitsavailable in the U.S. We last heard that we were getting90 units of the GT Coupe and we expect the samenumber for the Spyder version. New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011 6
  8. 8. New Cars 2011 the hood, Audi will place the same 5.2 liter V10engine that delivers a total of 560 HP and 398 lbs-ft oftorque, but because of the soft-top, the future spyderversion will only have a top speed of 193mph, 6mph lessthan the coupe. The added weight is obviouslynecessary, but does go away from Audi’s original weight-savings goal for the R8 GT. In order to achieve the 220lbs weight loss for the Audi R8 GT Coupe, the companyused a new carbon fiber liftback, a fixed rear wing, modified brake calipers, reduced engine-bay sound New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011deadening, and a lighter windscreen. We expect them toprovide similar treatment for the convertible version ofthe R8 GT. 7
  9. 9. New Cars 2011 seeing the first sketches of the R8 GT Spyder,MotorAuthority has finally caught the car testing inEurope. The most powerful and lighter R8 Spyder everwill be revealed for the first time at the Le Mans 24hours endurance race in June 2011 and will make itsworld debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show inSeptember. New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011 8
  10. 10. New Cars 2011 about an Audi R4 sports car have beencirculating for a very long time now. Audi has denied itsexistence a few times, but Volkswagen announcingthree different production versions of the BlueSportconcept has brought the R4 back out on the table. The New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011first rumors suggested the model would be revealed in2010, but that was obviously not the case. The R4 willactually be revealed in 2014 as a 2015 model and willshare its platform with the new entry-level Porsche andVolkswagen two-seaters. 9
  11. 11. New Cars 2011 talking with AutoCar about the new R4, an Audisource said: "We have not abandoned plans for aroadster along the lines of the E-tron Spyder. We havereached a stage where we are moving forward and arenow in the process of progressing the business casefurther, but it won’t go on sale until after the third-generation TT."This statement can be translated into the fact that theR4 won’t hit the market until late 2014 and it will bedesigned in such a manner that it won’t hurt the sales ofboth the Audi TT and the Audi R8 supercar, meaning itwill be placed somewhere in the middle. New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011 10
  12. 12. New Cars 2011 New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011Ever since Volkswagen unveiled the BlueSport conceptat the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, we’ve heard plenty "tobe or not to be" rumors about a possible production 11
  13. 13. New Cars 2011 Now we can finally confirm, without any doubts, that the Volkswagen Group will offer three differentversions of this concept. Audi, Porsche, and Volkswagenwill each have their own version of the concept withdifferent levels of sportiness and performance, butSkoda and Seat will be left out of the mix.Starting with Audi, their production version will beinspired by the E-tron Spyder concept and will beoffered with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-pot and 2.5-liter five-cylinder units, priced at around $45,000. ThePorsche model will take its design cues from the iconic1953 550 Spyder and will be offered with a twin-turbocharged engine with an output of about 380 HP. Itis also believed that the Porsche model will be calledthe 550 as a tribute to the classic model. Prices will be inthe $52K area. The Volkswagen model will, in fact, bethe only version taking its design inspiration from theBlueSport concept. It will feature a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an output of about 170HP. This will be the cheapest version with prices startingfrom around $30K. New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011The three models will stare the same platform, but theirinteriors will deliver different levels of luxury by featuring parts- such as instrument panels and dials - that are unique to eachmodel. This type of differentiation was successful with the Q7,the Cayenne, and the Touareg SUVs so Volkswagen is sure torecreate that success with the three roadster models. 12
  14. 14. New Cars 2011 Lotus announced that a production version Elanwould never happen, they also announced that the nextgeneration Evora would receive some aesthetic changesand new trim levels to align it with the rest of the"Lotus New Era" range. These things are typically betteron paper then they are in practice, but a leaked image ofthe future model illustrates these exact predictions. New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011The new Evora is expected to debut in 2013 and it seemsit will include no less than 150 changes compared to thecurrent model. These changes were made in order tomake the Evora a serious competitor for the Porsche 13
  15. 15. New Cars 2011 in existence. Lotus’ ex-Ferrari design boss,Donato Coco, said that these changes were necessary tomake up for the lack of aggression in the currentmodel’s design. The next Evora will feature this addedaggression, but will also continue the same designlanguage that started with the Lotus 18 single-seater atthe beginning of the 1960s.We’ll keep our eyes and ears open for any moreinformation on the future of the Evora so stay tuned! New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011 14
  16. 16. New Cars 2011 companies working together usually goes well. Ofcourse, there are some instances when partnershipshave gone wrong. The combination of Chrysler and New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011Mercedes-Benz was the worse German-Americanpartnership since Mr. Busch met Mr. Anheuser anddeveloped that tasteless brew called Budweiser. Thosekeen TopGear watchers will know that’s not our joke, but it worked here anyways. 15
  17. 17. New Cars 2011 same can be said of Daewoo and Chevrolet. Sure, they made some cheap cars, but they were just terrible. In fact, they might have set Chevrolet back a few yearsin Europe, due to cheapness image they still have. We’re not sure if this is going to happen with Toyota andSubaru. Both of these companies are strong and createwonder vehicles that are fun to drive on one end andpractical on the other. This combination might make forthe best all-around Japanese entry-level sports car wehave ever seen.Automotive News has unveiled new details on theSubaru FT-86 sports car set to be revealed later thisyear at the Tokyo Auto Show. Subaru expects a longer-than-average life cycle for the car and is looking atvariant packages, including a possible STI version. However, while the usual STI models are all about beingturbocharged, the FT-86 STI will keep the enginenaturally aspirated. The sports car will be offered withthe new generation 2.0-liter, four-cylinder boxer enginecombined with manual or automatic transmission. New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011 16

  20. 20. New Cars 2011 911 is the most successful model in Porsche’shistory. It started its long history back in 1963 and sincethen Porsche has offered five distinct generations: 911classic, 964 Series, 993 Series, 996 Series, and 997 Series. Moreover, the sixth one is already under intense New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011testings and will make its official debut in 2011 at theFrankfurt Motor Show.It may be a little unorthodox for Porsche to be bringingout a new generation 911 despite the fact they just 19
  21. 21. New Cars 2011 a facelift version, but the requests keepchanging and Porsche must answer the call of duty.Their latest target is improving both fuel consumptionand CO2 emissions. The sixth generation 911, or the 998, will be acompletely new vehicle, even though everyone willrecognize it as a 911 model. Shortly after the launch ofthe 998 911, Porsche will also be releasing the Turbo,GT2, and GT3 in 2012.UPDATE 06/01/2011: According to new details offeredby Car And Driver, the next generation Porsche 911 willdrop the current 6-speed manual gearbox and replace itwith a seven-speed manual that will help to improvefuel-economy and reduce engine noise. 22. 22. New Cars 2011’s been more than a year since Toyota unveiled theconcept version of the FT-86 Coupe at the 2009 TokyoMotor Show. During that year, we’ve heard so manyreports, rumors, and whispers about the car, that we’rebeginning to think that this could very well be the New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011second-coming of Toyota’s iconic Celica line.We already know that the Toyota FT-86 will come with aSubaru version as a direct result of the collaboration 21
  23. 23. New Cars 2011 the two Japanese brands. We’ve also receivedreports that the FT-86 will come with it’s own factorymodified G Sports version. Then there were reports thatthe Toyota version of the FT-86 will be badged as aScion. All these reports have generated major buzz on thesports coupe and we haven’t even talked about it’srelease date yet - it’s expected to come out inNovember of 2011, setting the stage for what promisesto be a very busy holiday season for both Toyota andSubaru. Now, the production version of the FT-86 has yet to berevealed, but the many people that fell in love with thedesign of the concept version, will be happy to knowthat, according to Toyota, the production version of theFT-86 will look a whole lot like the concept version withonly a few minor modifications to its aerodynamicpackage. The Toyota FT-86 has been caught testing at the New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011Nurburgring rocking its final bodywork. According toAutoCar, the car caught testing looks closer to the FT-86 II concept, confirming previous speculations that themost recent concept would be "95 per cent" of the finalmodel. 22
