An Introduction to Heart Rate Variability

  1. 1.  Cardiac Monitoring Services, LLC, has provided heart-monitoring equipment to physicians across the United States for more than two decades. Cardiac Monitoring Services, LLC, facilitates all necessary cardiograph equipment and software, as well as results reports. One option offered by the company is the Holter monitor. Capable of recording for up to seven days, the Holter monitor’s data can be used to generate heart rate variability (HRV) reports.
  2. 2.  A measurement of heart rate variability detects the variance in time gaps between heartbeats. As an individual inhales and exhales, the heart rate continuously speeds up and slows down. An HRV report allows for an analysis of the amount of time between each heartbeat. When the amount of time between beats is fairly standard and seldom changes, a person is said to have a low HRV. Comparatively, an individual with a significant amount of variance in the time between heartbeats has a high HRV.
  3. 3.  Research has linked HRV to both physical and emotional health. Individuals with a high HRV are often in good health, physically fit, and experience low levels of stress. On the other hand, those with low HRV levels tend to experience more stress and fatigue.
