Tics Modelling Damy Herrmann

 1. 1. TICS modelling : Conception of questionnaire Sylvie DAMY, Bénédicte HERRMANN Université de Franche-Comté - LIFC ITGO-2010 March 24 – 26 2010 Nantes and Rennes
 2. 2. Positioning

WP6 : CAENTI

Project TICS modelling

MSHE Besançon

ENTI Axis Observation

Jobs-LIFE

TICS Questionnaire Pool
 3. 3. TICS Modelling TICS Questionnaire Pool To describe comprehensively the domain of the TICS in order to prepare development of suitable and sustainable computing tools Modelling made from specifications drafted under caENTI (deliverable 60)
 4. 4. TICS modelling

At the moment:

Several versions of tools exist

Each version uses its own data model

Problems:

Interoperability between tools

Permanence of the data

TICS Questionnaire Pool
 5. 5. Questionnaire

Questionnaire =

 Deliverable 60: An ordered list of independent questions

 Our modelling: Deliverable 60 + questions organized according to themes

TICS Questionnaire Pool
 6. 6. Example

A part of the European Individual Diagnostic and Evaluation Guide: questionnaire proposed in the caENTI deliverable 60

TICS Questionnaire Pool
 7. 7. Questionnaire modelling

To be able to define in a complete and exhaustive way a questionnaire and be able to manipulate it in an automatic way with computing tools :

it is not only necessary to describe its questions

but also its organization

Our modelling proposes a description of the organization of the questions within a questionnaire that facilitates the re-use and the use by computing tools

TICS Questionnaire Pool
 8. 8. Block

Introduced to describe the organization of a questionnaire (does not exist in the catalyse toolkit)

Two different kinds of blocks:

the Thematic Blocks : which helps to conceive a questionnaire, from the thematic point of view

Construction Blocks : which helps to construct a questionnaire, from the operational point of view . These blocks will be used by the software tools to make up questionnaires

TICS Questionnaire Pool
 9. 9. Thematic Block

Corresponds to a structured element which presents questions according to a precise order, in touch with the theme which it handles

Constituted from construction blocks ranked in a certain order

TICS Questionnaire Pool
 10. 10. Example

The European Individual Diagnostic and Evaluation Guide :

Divided into various parts: every part groups together questions relative to the same theme

Personal data and family unit

Housing

Health context

Individual and social autonomy

Employment

TICS Questionnaire Pool
 11. 11.

Personnal data and family unit

What is your present marital status?

Single

Married

Separate or divorced

Widowed

Have you moved from your usual home country? Yes - No

If you moved from your usual home country: Is it ?

In a temporary way

In a definitive way

Without determined duration

Are there dependent minors in your household? Yes - No

If there are dependent minors in your household:

How many?  I __ I

How old are they (one answer by dependent minors in your household)?

F rom 0 to 2 years

 From 3 to 5 years

From 6 to 10 years

From 11 to 14 years

 15 years and more

TICS Questionnaire Pool
 12. 12. Construction Block

Operational point of view

Three kinds of construction block

Alternative_Block

Iterative_Block

Single_Block

TICS Questionnaire Pool
 13. 13. Construction Block

Alternative_Block

The questions are proposed to the individual questioned only if a specific answer to a previous question was made

It is made up of one condition and a set of ordered constructions blocks.

It can’t contain directly questions

TICS Questionnaire Pool

Yes - No

If there are dependent minors in your household: How many?  I __ I

How old are they (one answer by dependent minors in your household)?

F rom 0 to 2 years

 From 3 to 5 years

From 6 to 10 years

From 11 to 14 years

 15 years and more

Alternative Block TICS Questionnaire Pool
 15. 15. Construction Block

Iterative_Block

the questions can be proposed several times depending on the answer to a previous question.

It is linked to a question which gives its iteration value

it is made up of a set of ordered construction blocks

TICS Questionnaire Pool
 16. 16.

Personnal data and family unit

What is your present marital status?

Single

Married

Separate or divorced

Widowed

Have you moved from your usual home country? Yes - No

If you moved from your usual home country:

Is it ?

In a temporary way

In a definitive way

Without determined duration

Are there dependent minors in your household? Yes - No

If there are dependent minors in your household:

How many?  I __ I

How old are they (one answer by dependent minors in your household)?

F rom 0 to 2 years

 From 3 to 5 years

From 6 to 10 years

From 11 to 14 years

 15 years and more

Iterative Block TICS Questionnaire Pool
 17. 17. Construction Block

Single_Block :

consists only of questions,

each question has a rank in it

TICS Questionnaire Pool

 20. 20. Pool

Basic elements allowing the construction of a questionnaire, given to the designers of questionnaires : Questions and TTB

Every element conceived for a questionnaire can be reused in other questionnaires

TICS Questionnaire Pool
 21. 21. Questions pool

Corresponds to the set of questions from which it is possible to draft a questionnaire or a part of a questionnaire.

The modelling of this pool takes into account:

The consideration of territories

The classification of the questions

The life cycle of the questions

TICS Questionnaire Pool
 22. 22. Thematic Typical Block

“ Part” of questionnaire that is proposed to the persons who build questionnaire

Can be reused in various questionnaires

Composed by questions concerning one theme and one territory

TICS Questionnaire Pool
 23. 23. Thematic Typical Block

TTB = Thematic Block designed by the experts of the CAENTI and independent from any questionnaire

Reference block with regard to a theme which it handles

Linked to a territory

TICS Questionnaire Pool
 24. 24. Conclusion

Main contributions of the TICS modelling

modelling of the organization of a questionnaire : the organization can be treated in a computer way

allows formalizing certain practices of the designers of questionnaires. The designers are used to reusing questions or complete parts of questionnaires existing during the conception of a new questionnaire, it can now be realized directly with the computing tools thanks to the TTB and Questions pool.

makes easier the conception of questionnaire

 25. 25. Conclusion

Perspectives

Development of a tool to build questionnaire from a pool

Description of additional notions such as variable of synthesis, instrument panel …

Modelling the data collection

Taking into account the follow-up of the individuals, the repetition in time of inquiries
