  2. 2. <ul><li>Province of Antique </li></ul><ul><li>BUHAI is located in the municipality of Tobias Fornier, Province of Antique </li></ul><ul><li>It is composed of 50 barangays, of which 15 are along the coast </li></ul><ul><li>Total Population is 27,331 </li></ul><ul><li>Classified as 4 th class municipality with a total annual income of P27Million </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>PROVINCE OF ANTIQUE </li></ul><ul><li>BUHAI has a livelihood center in Brgy. Diclum, 2.5 kilometers away from Poblacion </li></ul><ul><li>The major source of income is fishing and rainfed farming </li></ul><ul><li>Hatweaving is one of the sources of income of residents </li></ul><ul><li>Before the project, we only produce ordinary hats at P5.00/hat with an average production of 20 hats per week or a monthly income of P200.00 </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>In 2001, Antique Development Foundation (ADF) is looking for supplier of buri hats for their buyers </li></ul><ul><li>Fortunately, they come to Diclum for possible source of Buri hats </li></ul><ul><li>Then series of consultations were made and different needs of weavers were identified </li></ul><ul><li>ADF proposed to PACAP for possible assistance </li></ul><ul><li>BUHAI was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission last September 2001 </li></ul><ul><li>Total membership from 15 to 60 which comes from the 4 adjacent barangays </li></ul><ul><li>Because of the active involvement of BUHAI in buri production it was chosen as the “one town one product (OTOP)” </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>Self sufficient buri weavers enjoying the benefits of their labor, actively participating in development activities while protecting and conserving the resource base for a united, peaceful and God loving community </li></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>To develop the weavers towards improved product quality </li></ul><ul><li>To protect buri as a major source of raw materials </li></ul><ul><li>To actively participate in various development endeavors </li></ul><ul><li>To promote and market products </li></ul><ul><li>To network with agencies both government and private for technical and financial assistance </li></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><li>ADF directly links with PACAP for funding assistance </li></ul><ul><li>ADF provides direct assistance to BUHAI such as trainings, marketing and finance </li></ul><ul><li>From time to time, PACAP with ADF will come to BUHAI for monitoring and consultation </li></ul>BUHAI ADF PACAP

  14. 14. <ul><li>Maintained and utilized the five (5) hectares of buri plantation </li></ul><ul><li>The LGU has issued an ordinance regulating the cutting of buri </li></ul><ul><li>Refined pricing and costing of products </li></ul><ul><li>BUHAI now able to meet volume orders </li></ul><ul><li>Increase in volume production (target volume) </li></ul>
  15. 15. <ul><li>Installed and operationalized development systems such as marketing systems operations </li></ul><ul><li>improved financial system in inventory control, cash management, receivable mgt., financial report systems </li></ul><ul><li>procured basic support facilities and equipment such as typewriter, camera, cell phone, sewing machines, cabinets </li></ul>
  16. 16. <ul><li>BUHAI as an organization has participated in local fairs such as the Pasundayag Festival during the Annual Binirayan Festival, municipal fairs and National Trade Fair </li></ul><ul><li>Has one regular buyer for gift bags from Manila </li></ul><ul><li>Products are sold in OTOP Center of the Province , ADF marketing Center, and other outlets </li></ul>

  18. 18. <ul><li>The project revived “buri” industry hence was considered as an OTOP </li></ul><ul><li>There is a need to care for our buyers for a longer relatioship </li></ul><ul><li>There is an increase awareness to protect buri because it is the source of raw materials </li></ul><ul><li>The series of trainings and other capability building activities helped BUHAI continue its operation </li></ul>
  19. 19. <ul><li>With the crisis, there is a need to develop relationship with existing buyers </li></ul><ul><li>To be competitive, we need to improve our products that are within the trends and designs </li></ul><ul><li>We need to gather market information so we can use it in our operations </li></ul>
