Stolen generation power point

 1. 1. Stolen generation
By Frank Hutton
2. 2. The story
In the twentieth century the government removed children from there family's and sent the to church run institutions or white family's. A resent report states that one child was taken from every aboriginal family. Some people even say the were used as slaves
3. 3. Child removal policy
The child removal policy resulted in widespread removal of children 3-16 from their parents. Policemen or other agents of the state were given the power to locate and transfer babies and children of mixed descent from their mothers or families.
4. 4. Debates
There have been many debates over the policy & almost all have been very unsuccessful from an aboriginals point of view. In all of the debates white people state that it was because there parents were violent or that they did not feed them.
5. 5. Solutions
Australia celebrates ‘sorry day’
Kevin Rudd made a national apology
6. 6. Other storys
Some people believe that a sorry is not needed & that aboriginal child removals were almost all based on child welfare. They were removed for the same reason as white children in similar circumstances. Most children effected were abandoned or neglected. Although the government effectively treated aboriginal people as second class citizens.
