WORK EXPERIENCE
Research Engineer: Photometria Inc. (TAAZ.COM) San Diego, CA 02/2008 – Present
Designed algorithms for photo enhancement including facial feature detection, face recognition
and image refinements which exploit a confluence of technologies in computer vision, computer
graphics and machine learning. I am one of the core team to build web2.0 service based on flash
platform to provide online virtual makeover tools to the users. I have solid understanding of
web2.0 development and user experience oriented design.
Designed algorithms for improved skin detection and skin tone correction utilizing 3D face model.
Modeled and fitted 3D eyeglass on user uploaded photos seamlessly including pose estimation,
UV texture unwrapping and rendering.
Internship: Euclid Discoveries Concord, MA 06/2006 - 09//2006
During this internship, I built a 3D model using planes for objects in video. This task included raw
model building, clustering, parameters learned by EM algorithm and 3D tracking for facial objects.
I also designed video compression algorithms for video conference applications.
Internship: VideoWin Corporation Beijing, China 11/2000 - 04/2001
2. • Developed multipoint video-conferencing software for Multi-media Conference System on PC
platform based on H.323 protocols.
• Designed the Multi-Control-Unit (MCU) based on H.245 for signaling control of video
conference system.
• Optimized the TI DSP video compression with improved DCT algorithm.
Electrical Engineer: China Telecom China 07/1997 - 09/1999
Worked on the Tandem exchanges and mobile base station, maintained and optimized the voice
channel in the switch chipsets (build-in DSP chip).
RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
Research Assistant Visualization and Intelligent Systems Laboratory, UCR
09/2002 - 09/2007
Super-resolution (Enhancement) of Facial Video
• Developed algorithm for 3D face tracking in video under changing illuminations and poses.
• Built 3D models using a morphable model based on low-resolution images.
• Developed robust image registration algorithms.
• Developed super-resolution algorithms for facial video taken from surveillance cameras using
a novel closed-loop approach.
• Developed algorithm for tracking facial video with expression changes using Resolution
Aware Incremental Free Form Deformation, in which a low resolution imaging model is
embedded to simulate the formation of low resolution images.
Face Recognition
• Designed and implemented video-based face recognition using the super-resolved facial
video.
• Improved the recognition rate by 20% by integrating super-resolution techniques into video-
based face recognition.
Facial Expression Recognition (FER)
• Generated facial features based on Gabor filter bank.
• Performed feature selection learned by genetic programming in an automatic manner and
achieve good classification results without any pre-processing on the facial expression
images.
• Trained Bayes and SVM classifiers for classification.
Intrusion Detection
• Designed algorithms to detect intrusions on servers using Neural Network and Genetic
Programming
