  • New devices are beginning to emerge including watches and glasses (Samsung’s smart watch, Apple’s iWatch, Google glass) all of which presumably will eventually integrate into the overall mobility ecosystem.
  • Apple has been broadening their outputs on peripheral hardware (that’s extra bits of kit to the uninitiated) to expand their ecosystem even further.
  • There is one distinctive trend with emerging ecosystems, which is to increase the boundary, with manufacturer’s constantly searching for ways to provide a more comprehensive sharing experience with the devices they produce.
  • Consumers might be reluctant to buy a smartphone and tablet to create their ecosystem. For example, the price of an iPhone 5s is 719CAD and iPad Air is around 519CAD.
  • As the mobile ecosystem will always maintain the KISS (Keep It Simple, Silly) principle, the devices that are participating in it are more user friendly to the consumers. This totally fits the consumer’s habit and needs; hence the devices are going to appeal more consumers.
  • By 2016, 80% of the US population will use mobile phones By 2016, 50% of the US will use iPads / tablets.By November 2012, over 20% of all blog visits came from a mobile device or tablet. Thus it is likely that more and more consumers are going to adopt and create their own mobile ecosystem.
  • Multiple technologies and platforms must be convergent as there will never be only one supplier and/or technology; the global integrated mobility architecture must be both service- and data-oriented to accommodate a very wide variety of stakeholders including both customers and providers;· security, privacy and trustworthiness are and always will be pervasive requirements·

    1. 1. How do I know which ecosystem I need? • Your ecosystem is influenced by the operating system your device runs on • The software will be the initial point of connections in starting your ecosystem • A device that runs on Android will be able to use any other devices and products that run within the Android system • However, Blackberry’s have their own hardware and run on a different OS, as a result, it is difficult to have an Android feature on a devices that runs on Blackberry • That is why there are similar applications specifically made for a type of Operating System
    2. 2. How safe are mobile ecosystems? • • • Just as secure as online banking Cloud storage on accounts require passwords Information saved is also encrypted
    3. 3. Apple’s iOS operating system • First manufacturer to offer the complete ecosystem • iOS extending across its tablets
    4. 4. Google’s Android operating system • Widely adopted by many manufacturers • Not as broad range of hardware however, their ecosystem is expanding after releasing a new tablet
    5. 5. Microsoft’s recent release of Windows 8 • Improved its ecosystems credential • Wide range of devices that are able to run Windows 8 mobile platform
