Dhamma makes the difference

 1. 1. Dhamma Makes The difference
Bugs Tan
2. 2. Cittavagga - The Mind
Mind is the forerunner of all things.
- Buddha
Mind is the forerunner
of all Inventions
- Bugs Tan
Due to its invisibility to our naked eyes,
most people are ignorant of its present.
3. 3. Avijja - Ignorance
Why is the baby full moon eggs red in colour?
And not yellow, black,
purple, oranges,green,blue?
Kenapamestimerah?
4. 4. EhiPassiko - Come and See
EhiPassiko is one of the qualities of the Dhamma. The Dhamma, unlike the teachings of other religions, does not require blind faith. The Dhamma invites one to come and investigate to see and experience for oneself. It does not fear examination or critical analysis.
That’s what I do in my work – R&D
5. 5. Panca Kanda - 5 Aggregates
This world is not a perfect place. There is so many things you can create to make life better.
(1st Noble truth)
Being observant is the starting point. Look at things around you at home, work or play.
1. Rupa - Body forms
2. Vinnana - Consciousness
3. Sanna - Perceptions
4. Vedana - Feelings and sensations
5. Sankhara - Mental formation
Look through your eyes,
conceptualize with your mind
6. 6. Vinnana - Consciousness
Eyes for sight
Body for touch
Ears for hearing
Tongue for taste
TIP: Vinnana is a prerequisite for the arising of craving (tanha).
Nose for smell
The mind receives the information and this is where it is processed and thus bring about consciousness.
7. 7. Annica - Change
MEN & WOMEN
ANIMALS
Environment
Opportunity to create new invention arise
8. 8. 4D Vs PancaSila (5 Precepts)
Do not kill
Do not steal
Do not misbehave
Do not tell lies
Do not get drunk
Dedication
Determination
Destination
Discipline
4D
9. 9. Dhamma Makes The Difference
No need to have a Master degree to become an inventor.
No need to have a degree in Dhamma to become a Buddhist
10. 10. Dhamma Makes The Difference
You reap what you sow
- law of Kamma
11. 11. The story of Suppabuddha
We all have the potential to be successful
"You are only a poor man, living on what you get by begging, with no one to fall back on. I can give you immense wealth if you deny the Buddha, the Dhamma and the Sangha – King Sakka
"I am certainly not a poor man, with no one to rely on. I am a rich man; I possess the seven attributes which the ariyas possess;
I have faith (saddha),
morality (sila),
sense of shame to do evil (hiri),
sense of fear to do evil (ottappa),
learning (suta),
generosity (caga) and
knowledge (panna).
- Suppabuddha
12. 12. It Pays to be Mindful
Akusala was the stumbling block to my success
13. 13. Keep a Calm Mind
The mind is excitable and unsteady;it is difficult to control and to restrain. The wise one trains his mind to be upright as a fletcher straightens an arrow
– The Buddha
Story of TheraMeghiya
… he was assailed by thoughts associated with the senses, ill will and cruelty (kamavitakka, byapadavitakka and vihimsavitakka).
I stayed focus on my projects
14. 14. Determinations
We faced;
Failure in work
Failure in relationship
Failure in business
Failure, failure, failure…
We cannot be worst than this
The story of Patacara who lost everything…
15. 15. Khanti - Patience
If not this life, we’ll be rewarded in the next life
We should not get too disturbed abt why bad guys are rich and good guys are poor?
Be patient?
Kamma ripen when the condition is right
16. 16. Dealing with Hatred
Hatred is not overcome by hatred. It is overcome by LOVE. This is an Eternal Law.
17. 17. Buddhist are Happy People
Avoid wrongdoing, Do good and Purify the mind,
This is the teaching of Buddhas.
~ Dhammapada 183
18. 18. Let go when it’s dead
I've gotten past the killing of [my] sons, have made that the end to [my search for] men.I don't grieve,I don't weep....It's everywhere destroyed — delight. The mass of darkness is shattered.Having defeated the army of death, free of fermentations I dwell.
- KisaGotami
I give it-up if my idea are worthless
19. 19. Pleasure Vs Happiness
In my 30s
I want to be reborn as the Chairman of Sime Darby
In my 40s
I do not to be reborn again
In my 20s
I want to be reborn as a Jew
20. 20. There is too much Ego in us
"Give your ears" said the Buddha, "the deathless is found. I shall instruct you. I shall teach you the Dhamma".
The 5 Bhikkhus tried to resist, but who who could hold out against an awakened one?
"By practicing as you are instructed you will, by realizing it yourself here and now through direct insight-knowledge, enter upon and abide in that supreme goal of the holy life for the sake of which men of good family rightly go forth from home to homeless"
We got to get rid of “I”
21. 21. Anatta - Non-self
The Lord Buddha teaches that both "we ourselves" and everything else in this world are compound phenomena, which just come into existence temporarily when conditions are right, continue to exist for a time, changing continually disintegrate or decomposed and are no longer in existence.
SabbeSankharaanicca
SabbeSankharadukha
Sabbedhammaanatta
Which mean;
All compound phenomena are impermanent
All compound phenomena are suffering
All phenomena are non-self
TIP: if one can understand such nature, then you can understand the working of Anicca
