Thoughtfully think about the search terms we are using and how we can build in the language of our topic to lead us to more strategic results. °'"'°”“"°'"--"W 2. Simultaneously jot down keywords, concepts, and phrases lmrnNou1IPvo}ocl essential to our topic without taking in-depth notes at this point since we're focusing our topic at this point. We now are going to use the Target Notes template to help us try and "connect the dots” of these ideas in our search maps. This activity will be a way of looking closely at what we've read and thought about as we've mapped to help us think about focal points for our research/ project topic. Generate, Sort, Connect, and Elaborate Steg 1: Look at your search map. We have used this map to generate a list of terms, phrases, and concepts that we've discovered in the "presearch" phase of skimming, scanning, and building our search vocabulary. What cultural values seem to be standing out, and what concepts/ qualities/ aspects are essential to those cultural values? If you need help thinking about questions to help you frame the ideas that stand out or how you might think about these cultural aspects, please refer to the "question | enses" handout, a list of questions that can help you examine your topic through different perspectives. These questions can also be helpful when you hit a "sticking" point in further research to come and/ or with your analysis piece. Steg 2: Now, use the Target Notes template to: . s_qg your ideas according to how central or tangential they are. Place central ideas near the center and more tangential ideas toward the outside of the page. o Connect your ideas by drawing connecting lines between ideas that have something in common. Explain and write in a short sentence how the ideas are connected. o In the box at the bottom, elaborate on any ofthe ideas/ thoughts you have written so far by adding new ideas that expand, extend, or add to your initial ideas.
