  • -just a few years ago, these guys weren’t even on twitter!? WTF? Why? -#JOKE: make joke about stupid barney cam - idiots: no one cares about barney. Site looks like shit, etc etc. -but we’re not here to talk about social media and government - ok we all *GET* that!! --I’m here to talk the fact that the White House and FCC need Citizen Services just like Enterprise does. --Citizen services are just as important for Gov as it is for Enterprise.
  • people have lost fiath in the suggestions box -gov using shity old skool listening tools -the fear of listenting in gov 2.0 is a good problem to have (That means you have lots of customers) --don’t be afraid of it.

  • - Connect, Listen and Engage Campign >> Governance - Email marketing - “RE:” -the act of listening at scale -> that itself is a marketing strategy -Cross-pollination: marketing to citizens gives you a nice cross section of your market - you’re not just getting exposure to techies/govvies - a larger cross section
  • -just the simple act of listening matters ---viv's got two stories here - retention rates double by just listening
  • New Media Grassroots Put Obama in Office -they were able to raise $500MM cash just online for a black presidential nominee -so you can tell people to fuck off when they say new media is a fad -Obama’s team is basically a seriously bad-ass citizen digital marketing agency --anyone would hire these fuckers in the private in a heartbeat. You KNOW you’d kill to have them on your team (RE: example).
  • -they expect to be heard and they know how to listen (online) -there is a very real disconnect between the old world and new world: (they don’t even understand checks..ie, “why the fuck can’t I donate to Obama with PayPal, slide/etc????!!!)
  • Jan 21 - 2009 - First thing is the Open Gov Initiative Transition from Campaign Mode to Governance model This is basically the launch of their digital marketing campaign: citizen services.
  • -Gov needed Citizen services tools to fulfill Obama’s OpenGov Iniative -The logjam: Gov needed tools, but too much red tape to adopt cloud services -these two people were most infuencial in breaking the logjam -logjam being gov’s fear of the cloud -gov was just treating all ‘software’ as the same: Twitter/Facebook had to go through same security vetting process as military grade software. This is stupid.
  • -Bev Godwin/Macon Philips -Jammed through ammended terms of service with small cloud computing vendors -created apps.gov -made it OK for gov to use cloud, listening services.

Cheap computing. Lets not sugar coat it. -cloud computing helps gov make money: they aren’t afraid -we've been cloud before cloud was cool -story about ourselves - started in a garage -  -Now we’re the darlings of Vivek Kundra/Peter Levin/Bev Godwin
