Level 1 excellence example

  1. 1. Level 1 Excellence Example: This portfolio presents outstanding evidence to meet the criteria consistent with The New Zealand Curriculum, Learning Media, Ministry of Education, 2007, relating to the following strands in Visual Arts, Level 6: Understanding the Arts in Context; Developing Practical Knowledge; Developing Ideas; Communicating and Interpreting. This sample demonstrates a high level of fluency in the handling of a range of media. Observational pencil drawings lead into scraffito, which are then appropriately transferred into beautifully executed woodcut prints and paintings. Ideas have been developed through the combining and layering of these media studies, contrasting tone and colour to pull the viewer’s eye to focal areas. A clarification of ideas is clearly seen in the decision to simplify each arrangement by restricting the detail in the negative spaces. Each work has been carefully selected to show a systematic approach in the development of ideas from printmaking to painting
