  1. 1. The  purpose  of  this  project  was  to  use  juxtaposi2on  in  an  art  piece.  These  pages  show  the  earlier  stages  of  the  project,   including  the  brainstorming  of  points  of  ini2al  interest  and  some  background  research  on  the  history  of  juxtaposi2on  in   artwork.
  2. 2. This  page  shows  more  of  my  ini2al  brainstorming,  as   I  began  to  access  my  own  level  of  skill  to  decide  what   I  could  experiment  with.           This  page  shows  my  synthesis  for  Ai  Weiwei,   who  served  as  one  of  my  inspira2ons  while   doing  this  project
  3. 3.     This  page  shows  my  synthesis  for  Song  Dong,  who   was  the  other  ar2st  in  my  comparison  and  also   served  as  inspira2on  while  doing  this  project.     This  page  was  the  beginning  of  my  brainstorming   once  I  had  decided  on  a  major  theme,  and  have   moved  on  the  determining  the  imagery  in  the  piece
  4. 4.     These  are  the  beginning  of  my  media  experiments  with  an  acrylic  transfer  technique  I  learned  in  class.  I  used  different   materials  to  do  the  transfer  on  canvas  and  used  the  results  of  this  to  refine  my  overall  concept  for  the  piece.
  5. 5.     This  page  shows  the  process  of   making  the  artwork  aFer   planning.     There  are  addi2onal  reflec2on   points  along  the  way  detailing   errors  made  during  the   produc2on  as  poten2al  things  to   avoid  in  the  future.
  6. 6.     These  pages  show  more  media  experiments  once  I  had  finally  decided  on  the  image  itself.  These  experiments  included   edi2ng  small  details  of  the  image,  along  with  some  addi2onal  ideas  and  the  and  final  product  outcome.
  7. 7. This  is  the  first  page  of  my  process  for  our  busts  project.  We   were  being  taught  to  use  clay,  so  this  is  my  note  taking  on   the  processes  that  I  was  learning  for  making  busts.     This  is  my  ar2st  synthesis  for  our  bust  sculpture  project.  I   compared  Jun  Kaneko  and  Ah  Xian  with  the  art-‐o-‐ma2c   program  before  wri2ng  an  ar2st  comparison.
  8. 8.           This  is  my  con2nued  experimenta2on  with   sculp2ng  the  features  of  the  bust,  including   building  up  the  basic  facial  structures  and   crea2ng  the  shoulders.
  9. 9.     These  pages  show  the  final  stages  of  sculp2ng,  including  making  the  eyes,  ears,  and  lips.  There  were  a  lot  of  challenges  that   I  had  to  cope  with  involving  dimensions  and  making  the  bust  look  as  natural  as  possible.     There  is  also  my  thoughts  on  the  final  product  and  my  reflec2on  of  the  en2re  process.
  10. 10.     These  pages  are  the  beginning  of  my  “The  Gaze”  project,  including  my  inspira2on  for  the  piece  (one-‐line  drawings),  my   brainstorming  (the  incorpora2on  of  eyes  into  the  piece)  ,  and  my  reflec2on  on  my  first  experiment/aSempt  at  my  idea.
  11. 11. These  pages  are  my  process  in  my  second  aSempt  at  my  “The  Gaze”  idea,  aFer  taking  into  account  the  issues  that  I  had   with  the  first  piece.    I  documented  a  lot  of  my  process  with  the  new  medium  that  I  had  chosen,  and  my  more  methodical   drawing  compared  to  the  older  piece.     There  are  also  my  final  thoughts  on  the  finished  piece.
  12. 12. Synthesis   This  is  my  art-‐o-‐ma2c  synthesis   for  Laylah  Ali    and  Zhang   Xiaogang.  I  used  this  informa2on   to  later  write  an  ar2st   comparison  as  inspira2on  for  my   later  projects.
  13. 13. This  is  my  planning  for  the  “Text  and  Image”  project  we  were  assigned.  I  wanted  to  use  a  character  that  I  had  been  drawing   frequently  at  the  2me,  and  I  u2lized  many  of  the  varia2ons  of  that  character  I  had  done  up  to  that  point.  The  second  page   includes  one  of    the  pieces  in  a  diptych,  and  my  final  thoughts  on  it.
  14. 14. This  is  my  process  in  crea2ng  the  second  piece,  including  my  ideas  on  how  to  make  it  similar  to  the  first  piece,  but  s2ll   unique.  A  lot  of  aspects  of  the  second  piece  were  based  on  reflec2ons  of  the  first,  and  I  include  my  reflec2on  on  this  piece,     including  the  pain2ng  of  the  background  which  I  was  very  unhappy  with.
  15. 15. These  pages  show  the  beginning  of  the  “Baldheads”  project,  which  was  an  original  idea  of  mine.  This  includes  my  vision  for   the  pain2ng,  the  beginning  stages,  and  my  inten2ons  for  what  I  would  do  with  the  pain2ng  as  I  progressed  in  pain2ng.
  16. 16. These  pages  mostly  show  the  “Baldheads”  process,  as  I  ran  into  some  issues  and  discovered  new  things  while  in  the  process   of  pain2ng.    There  are  several  reflec2on  points  along  the  way  that  sum  up  my  final  thoughts  on  the  pain2ng.
  17. 17. This  is  the  beginning  of  my  second  “Baldheads”  project,  with  a  slightly  different  origin  of  inspira2on  which  lead  to  a   different  aesthe2c  quality.  It  also  includes  my  planning,  and  the  beginning  stages  of  the  pain2ng  as  I  experiment  with  darker   colors  and  more  difficult  shapes  of  the  human  body.
  18. 18. These  pages  detail  the  process  of  pain2ng,  as  well  as  addi2onal  inspira2on  that  I  pulled  from  the  pain2ngs  of  other  ar2sts   while  I  was  mid-‐process.  There  are  also  several  reflec2on  points  since  I  had  some  issues  with  the  dimensions  of  the  bodies,   and  had  to  change  some  aspects  of  my  ini2al  vision  of  the  pain2ng.
  19. 19. This  is  the  final  product  of   the  second  “Baldheads”   project  and  my  ar2st   statement.
  20. 20. These  pages  are  my  ar2st  research  on  Alan  Resnick,  who  influenced  me  to  aSempt  digital  media  in  my  art  projects.  I  detail   some  aspects  of  his  prac2ce  that  are  especially  interes2ng  to  me  and  some  of  the  digitally  based  works  that  he  has  done.
  21. 21. This  is  the  beginning  process  of  my  gifs  project.  The  process  was  quite  long  and  challenging  so  these  are  the  beginning   photographic  and  Photoshop  experimenta2on  phases  of  the  project.
  22. 22. These  are  the  later  stages  of  my  process  in  the  gifs  project.  Including  finishing  touches  and  challenges  I  had  geZng  the   project  to  a  stage  that  I  was  sa2sfied  with.  There  is  also  my  final  product  and  ar2st  statement  regarding  what  the  project’s   deeper  meaning  is.
