Please find attached the first edition of your monthly Logistics Market Snapshot for 2013! As always, I have included below some selected encouraging statistics:
· During the past year, container volume on U.S. railroads represented 87% of total intermodal volume, up from 69% in 2000 and every Class 1 U.S. railroad recorded increases in intermodal for the year.
· At the end of 2012, about 32 million square feet (MSF) of warehouse construction was in progress nationwide. Georgia leads all states in this category with 3.4 MSF of new construction underway; nearly twice as much as the 1.8 MSF being constructed in Tennessee, which is #2 in the country.
· The U.S. GDP increased 3.1% in the third quarter of 2012 according to the final estimate released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
· In November, building permits rose 3.6% (an indicator of future housing starts) to an annual rate of 899,000.
Finally, I would be remiss if I did not remind you of the 2013 Georgia Logistics Summit coming up on March 19th - 20th in Atlanta.
Take a look at: www.georgialogistics.com/logistics-summit as we have recently posted an updated agenda, brand new sponsorship opportunities (since we sold out last month!) and much more.
