  5. 5. regulatory You and the police Regulators CQC inspections Taking care of medical records and court processes Preparing for audits and inspections You and the police The police take the lead role in investigating suspicious deaths to determine if there is sufficient evidence to support a charge of corporate manslaughter and/or gross negligence manslaughter. This workshop is aimed at managers, including: • the legal framework • your organisation as a suspect • individuals as suspects • the organisation and staff as witnesses • disclosure of information to the police • supporting staff as witnesses during criminal proceedings. • the legal framework and CQC role and powers • new fundamental standards and outcomes data • preparing for and managing the initial visit of the CQC • conducting your own internal investigations • ongoing liaison with CQC throughout the investigation • responding to the imposition of conditions/ restrictions • preparing for an appeal • avoiding criminal prosecution. Medical records and court processes A workshop aimed at helping practitioners realise the importance of accurate records, including: • real life case studies - records under scrutiny • the principles of court processes - clinical negligence claims and inquests. Regulator investigations It is inevitable that you will come under the spotlight from one of the regulators from time to time either following a suspicious death, never event, even a near miss or following a statutory inspection.
