Geography of Madagascar <ul><li>Madagascar is East of Africa </li></ul><ul><li>It is an island in the middle of the Indian Ocean </li></ul><ul><li>The languages they speak are Malagasy, French and English </li></ul><ul><li>The locals are called Malagasy people </li></ul><ul><li>It is the forth largest island in the world </li></ul><ul><li>The capital is Antananarivo </li></ul>

Antanarivo <ul><li>It is the largest city of Madagascar. </li></ul><ul><li>145 km away from the Indian coast. </li></ul><ul><li>In 2001 the population was 903,450 people. </li></ul><ul><li>Its nickname is Tana. </li></ul><ul><li>It is situated in the centre of the island length-wise. </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>5% of the worlds plant and animal species ( more than 80% belong to Madagascar. </li></ul><ul><li>The lemur, the fossa (a forest-dwelling genet like mammal), three bird families and six baobab species. </li></ul><ul><li>Two thirds of the population live below the international poverty line of US $1.25 dollars a day. </li></ul>Madagascar

Wildlife The island has an unusual mix of wildlife e.g. it doesn’t have apes, monkeys, elephants, zebras, giraffes, lions, hyenas, rhinos, antelopes, buffalo or camels that you would expect in Africa. It has lemurs, tenrecs, boa constrictors ( a type of snake), iguanas and more. Tenrec Iguana Boa Constrictor
  7. 7. Music! Madagascar has a rich and distinctive musical heritage. The early Austronesian settlers brought with them the predecessor to the valiha (bamboo tube musical instrument) as well as other music which would form the basis of Traditional Malagasy music. European pirates also contributed to Malagasy musical traditions, importing the guitar, accordion, piano and the instruments used in Hiragasy performance including the violin, trumpet and clarinet.
