  2. 2. What is a Podcast? <ul><li>A podcast is a series of digital media files (either audio or video ) that are released episodically and downloaded through web syndication . </li></ul>
  3. 3. Tell Me More! <ul><li>Podcasting was developed in 2004 by former MTV video jockey Adam Curry and software developer Dave Winer. Curry wrote a program, called iPodder, that enabled him to automatically download Internet radio broadcasts to his iPod. Several developers improved upon his idea, and podcasting was officially born. </li></ul><ul><li>Some say the word comes from “Programming on Demand” + “Broadcasting”. </li></ul>

Podcasts Rock - Free Speech Rules <ul><li>Podcasting is free from government regulation . </li></ul><ul><li>Podcasters don't need to buy a license to broadcast their programming, as radio stations do </li></ul><ul><li>They don't need to conform to the Federal Communication Commission's (FCC) broadcast decency regulations. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>That means anything goes – from four-letter words to sexually explicit content. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Copyright law does apply to podcasting. Podcasters can copyright or license their work. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Cannot use copyrighted music, however. </li></ul></ul>

Why Podcast? <ul><li>You become THE trusted resource on your subject. </li></ul><ul><li>It’s easy to gain listeners </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Gives them 24-hour access to you, download in their timeframe, how and where they want. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>They can take your podcasts whenever and however they want: </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Daily run </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Long commutes </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><li>You can use podcasts in many different applications: informational, educational purposes -- self-guided walking tours, talk shows and training. </li></ul>

  7. 7. Creating Your Podcast <ul><li>Download the software </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Audacity is easy to use and edit </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>It’s free </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>audacity.sourceforge.net </li></ul></ul>
  8. 8. 1- Record Your Podcast <ul><li>Put your script in front of you (you do have a script, right??) </li></ul><ul><li>Hit the record button </li></ul><ul><li>Start talking! </li></ul>
  9. 9. 2 – Edit Your Podcast <ul><li>Hit Stop </li></ul><ul><li>Playback </li></ul><ul><li>Edit out errors, the phone ringing, cat clawing at the door, neighbor dogs barking… </li></ul><ul><li>Add music (PodSafeAudio.com) </li></ul><ul><li>Save it as an .mp3 </li></ul>
