Small Business Facts • Over ¾ of small businesses are non-employers • 60% of net new jobs created are from existing businesses; 40% from churn of startups minus closures • 10-12% firms with employees open & close each yr. • ½ new establishments survive 5 yrs; ⅓ survive 10+ yrs • 52% home-based (24% employers; 63% non- employers) • 22.3% federal contracting dollars to small businesses • Of high patenting firms, small businesses produce 16 times more patents per employee
