HMHB Closes the Gap on HIV Awareness

  1. 1.  Brian Shechtman oversees park operations at Santa’s Enchanted Forest in Miami, Florida. As park owner, Brian Shechtman also attracts numerous local and national charities, including the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Broward and the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Broward County, Inc. (HMHB), has initiated a number of collaborations with several Broward County organizations with a goal of educating the public on how to reduce and, eventually, end the loss of life attributed to HIV.
  2. 2.  Funded by the Florida Department of Health’s Office of Minority Health, the HMHB Closing the Gap program strives not only to raise awareness about the dangers of HIV and possible treatments, but also to address the racial and ethnic disparities that exist when it comes to knowledge of HIV and AIDS care. As an extension of HMHB, the Closing the Gap program emphasizes the health risks presented to babies born to HIV positive mothers.
