  4. 4. Stereotypes Ex. #2 <ul><li>All rap artists are uneducated, or all rappers are “thugs”. </li></ul><ul><li>True or false? </li></ul>
  5. 5. Stereotype Ex. #3 <ul><li>All Muslims are terrorists. </li></ul><ul><li>True or false? </li></ul>
  6. 6. How do they impact me? <ul><li>Stereotypes are negative and often lead to discrimination or oppression. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Ethnocentrism Defined <ul><li>Belief in the superiority of one’s own ethnic group. </li></ul><ul><li>To look at the world primarily from the perspective of your own culture. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Ethnocentrism Ex. #1 <ul><li>America is better than any other country in the world. </li></ul><ul><li>This is different from Patriotism, which is taking pride in your country. </li></ul>

  10. 10. Ethnocentrism’s Impact on the World <ul><li>Leads to attitudes of superiority! </li></ul><ul><li>Clouds our understanding of different peoples and cultures. </li></ul><ul><li>Can lead to violence and discrimination. </li></ul>
