  • Yeah the 'German army' didn't surrender in 1943. The German Sixth Army trapped in Stalingrad surrendered because it was surrounded for months and Hitler refused to let them break out and retreat.

The War Spreads • After Germany’s defeat in the Battle of Britain, Hitler turned eastward • Although he had signed a non-aggression pact with Stalin, Hitler had never let go of his original plan to take over the USSR when the time was right • Originally, the invasion was planned for later, but when the Soviet Union took over part of the Balkans in 1940, Hitler became suspicious of Stalin’s motives
