  2. 2. What is GIL Express?<br />If you need a book that’s not available in our library, GIL Express lets you request books to be delivered to you from other schools in the University System of Georgia (USG).<br />Only books can be requested via GIL Express.<br />
  3. 3. Increased Access<br />Through GIL Express, USG students, faculty, and staff have access to approximately 9 million books from 36 schools.<br />
  4. 4. How do you use GIL Express?<br />
  5. 5. Library Homepage<br />Go to the Library Homepage at:<br /><br />Click on “My Library Accounts” in the lower right corner of the screen.<br />
  6. 6. My GIL Account<br />Select “My GIL Account”.<br />Your online GIL Account allows you to keep track of all items you have checked out from Georgia College and other USG schools.<br />
  7. 7. Get Your PIN<br />Establish a PIN<br />From the drop-down menu, select which number you will enter:<br />Barcode: found on the back of your Bobcat card<br />Institution ID: 911 #<br />Enter your last name<br />At the bottom of the screen, select “Get my PIN”<br />

Establishing a PIN<br />A temporary PIN will be sent to your student email.<br />If email does not arrive, check Junk Mail.<br />Once temporary PIN is retrieved, return to login page and enter all information, including new PIN.<br />Once you are logged in, you will be able change your PIN to something you can remember.<br />

Checking the Georgia College Catalog<br />If you have an exact title or the name of an author, click <br />“Exact Search”.<br />If you are conducting research on a topic but do not have a specific item you are looking for, you can contact the Reference Desk for research assistance: (478) 445-0979, or you can visit them on the 2nd floor of the Library..<br />
  11. 11. Searching the Georgia College Catalog<br />Enter either the Title or the Author here.<br />Don’t forget to select “Title” or “Author”<br />
  12. 12. Leaving the Georgia College Catalog<br />If item is not in our collection, you can search the GIL Universal Catalog.<br />Important<br />If you use GIL Express to request a book that is available in our library, your request will fail.<br />
  13. 13. The Universal Catalog<br />Although listed in the catalog, this item cannot be requested via GIL Express. Only books can be requested.<br />Notice that this item is owned by multiple libraries. <br />Select this item to view the item record.<br />
  14. 14. Click “GIL Express Request” to request this item.<br />Notice that this item is owned by 3 libraries, and that none of them are checked out; this means that these items are currently available. <br />
  15. 15. Logging In<br />Select your school: Georgia College and State University<br />Enter either your Barcode or your Institution ID<br />Enter your PIN<br />Enter your last name<br />
  16. 16. Submitting Your Request<br />Click “Ok”<br />On this form, enter the number you used to log in.<br />Then select the library where you want the item delivered.<br />

Delivery Locations<br />The request form defaults to your home institution as the Pick-Up location<br />You may want to change the pick-up location:<br />If you live closer to another USG school. For example, if you are a GC graduate student at the Macon campus, you may want to designate Macon State College as your pick-up location.<br />If you will be closer to another USG school during the time the item will be delivered. <br />
  18. 18. Reasons a Request Might Fail<br />The item is available at the Georgia College Library.<br />The item requested is not a book, or it is an electronic book.<br />The item requested cannot be checked out. For example, Reference items, items on Reserve, Special Collections, etc…<br />
  19. 19. Monitoring Your Account<br />If the request is successful, click on “My Account”.<br />Your online account will look something like this.<br />Scroll to the bottom of the screen to see “Requests Pending”.<br />At the far right, you can monitor the status of your request.<br />

Important Information<br />GIL Express requests usually take from 3-7 days to arrive.<br />The check-out period is 28 days.<br />You can renew items using your online account.<br />2 Renewals per item.<br />Renew no later than the day before the due date.<br />If an item is recalled by its owning institution, it must be returned.<br />

Important Information<br />As soon as a GIL Express item is overdue, your library account will be blocked.<br />You can have up to 100 GIL Express books checked out at one time.<br />You can walk into any USG library and check out books with either your Bobcat card or your Driver’s License.<br />

Fines and Fees<br />There are no overdue fines associated with GIL Express.<br />If an item is more than 28 days overdue, the system will assume it is lost, and your account may show a replacement fee.<br />As long as the “lost” item is returned, the replacement fee will be forgiven, but you may be required to pay a processing fee.<br />
  23. 23. Fees for Recalled Items<br />If an item is recalled by its owning institution, that item must be returned immediately.<br />If this item is not returned immediately, you will be charged a daily fee until it is returned.<br />
