March 1 Graphing And Y Intercept

  1. 1. GRAPHING! 2
  2. 2. What would happen if there was a number added to our line? What would y = x + 1 look like?
  3. 3. y=x+1 x 1 2 3 0 -1 -2 -3 y
  4. 4. What if that number increased? What would y = x + 4 look like?
  5. 5. y=x+4 x 1 2 3 0 -1 -2 -3 y
  6. 6. What happens to the line when that last number increases? Do you think that is always the case? We should assign it a variable then, b
  7. 7. What happens when b is negative!? What would y = x - 2 look like?
  8. 8. y=x-2 x 1 2 3 0 -1 -2 -3 y
  9. 9. So lines come in the form y = mx + b where m affects the slope of the line and b changes where the line crosses the y axis..... where it intercepts the y axis.... so we call it ..... the y-intercept!
