  2. 2. When is the perfect time for a person to plan his/her career? Nobody knows what the exact answer is, but as career pathways experts say, it is never too early to begin planning your career. The problem here is how you can actually tell that you are at a good stage in your life to actually map out a plan of what you are going to be as you graduate from college. High School to University or College Ideally, this is the point in your life where you should start thinking of where you would go for college and what course you are going to take, which will have a huge impact on what direction your career will take. The first thing you can do is to gather as much information as you can about class options. Which classes are you most interested in? Are you active in participating in certain extra-curricular activities? How do you usually spend your free or spare time? Do you have a dream that you are serious about pursuing? Have you met any person whose job is what you see yourself doing in the future? The transition from high school to college actually makes it an excellent time for you to think about what career path to pursue. As you make your career plans, make sure that you use it as you also choose what course to take in college. College to Job Market As soon as you have graduated from university, you must start thinking of what it is you want to do for employment. During your time in college, you would have gained more knowledge, skills and lessons that you can apply as you search for your first job. However, choosing the right job is never an easy thing to do. The thing is, the time after college is also a good time to plan your career. It is during this time that you have the freedom to choose what occupation to have and for whom to work. Do not forget all the interests you had back in high school and college in deciding what career to pursue. Since there cannot be a perfect formula for finding the perfect job, you should welcome failures and disappointments at first. You may find yourself doing something you are not happy about, but this should not stop you from planning further. What’s important about having career pathways is that you can anticipate what challenges you are likely to face. Especially when you work with a career coach, you will learn about the many options you have in terms of what career to pursue. By using your career plan, everything you do will have a reason and you can look forward to someday achieving all your career goals. All of us probably know that one of the biggest decisions we are going to make in or lives is choosing a job or a career. As a matter of fact, we are made to understand this even when we were still students. What’s ironic, however, is that no matter what preparations we make or how well we plan out our careers, job change still seems inevitable at some point. Well it is quite natural for everyone to seek change once in a while, even in their careers. But it is important than you make a plan on how you are going to switch careers to make sure you will not have any regrets in the end.
  3. 3. Common Mistakes in Changing Jobs • Not Planning Enough. It is important that you understand that changing careers or jobs is not an easy or simple process. You cannot just decide to change jobs now and wake up tomorrow with a brand new one. It is imperative that plan out your course of action so that you will not miss any important aspect of this move. • Thinking Only about Money. You must have heard people saying that money cannot buy you happiness. No matter how old you think this saying is, it just never gets old and it will always be true. Yes, you need to find a job where you can make enough money to support your family’s needs, but it is just not right to think of money only as your reason to change jobs. What if the job that pays you a lot involves very dangerous tasks? Do you think it is going to be worth it? If you use money as your motivation to do a certain job, it is very likely that you will not be able to stand it for a long time. • Following What Others Say You Should Do. You must not let yourself give in to any pressure your family or friends are giving you. While they may actually know what jobs are good and well- paying, they cannot know exactly what job can make you happy. You are the only one who can decide if a certain job or position will give you the fulfillment and happiness you have been longing for, and that’s all that really matters. • Ignoring Education and Skills. Going for a job change may entail having to study or undergo training once again. If you are sure you want to switch jobs or career, you have to be mentally and financially ready to learn new things by perhaps going to school again. Without this, you may find it hard to qualify for jobs that you are not quite familiar with. In most cases, people think of their jobs as “simply a job”. This can be very surprising especially to those who enjoy and love their jobs. So what is it exactly that makes a person hate or love their jobs instead of hate them? Perhaps the bigger question is how you can transform the job you dislike into something that you will enjoy doing. You must also be wondering if a job change is a good way of dealing with a job you hate. By knowing what makes other people love their jobs, you may actually find a way you could love your own job. Challenges at Work. Surprisingly, the challenges involved in a particular job or career is almost always one of the reasons people stay in their jobs. Although the tasks may be difficult to handle at times, these challenges make them creatively use their knowledge and skills. Plus, by trying to solve various problems, you can learn many new things. The key here is to look at every challenge as a chance to learn and grow. Great Employers. One very important factor that makes any employee love their job is having a great boss. Although not all of us are blessed with a very good boss, it doesn’t necessarily mean we have to hate our jobs. This should actually be an additional motivation for us to work better and harder. Friends in the Workplace. Developing good relationships with coworkers is very important in maintaining your happiness in your workplace. This good relationship can even prevent any sort of friction among you and your coworkers. In addition, it can make you feel comfortable in expressing your

You would want your input to be recognized and you want to see that what you do affects people and the company in a positive way. Those who love their jobs are very satisfied individuals who know that they make a difference in what they do. Their Dream. Not all people enjoy being busy and having to do something almost the entire day. There are people who also find satisfaction in being productive. On the other hand, some people have a hard time dealing with pressure and stress. For a person to love what he or she is doing, it is important to love being productive. If you are someone who appreciates being asked to do important things, you will never likely think of job change at all.
