Some Dos and Donts for traveling on hill routes during Yatra seasonDos Donts1- The big sized vehicles with wheel base more than 166 inches and overhang more than fifty percent are not allowed inYatra routes and on hill routes.1-Dont travel in un-authorizedvehicles such as private vehiclesplying as un-authorized commercialvehicles on hire and reward.2-The driver should be experienced and efficient for driving on hill roads. 2-The vehicle should not be driven byinexperienced person or by the helperof the driver.3-Driver should have the complete list of the passengers traveling in the vehicle. 3- Do not drive before 5 A.M. or after7 P.M. on hill routes.4-The descending vehicle on the slopes should give way to ascending vehicle. 4-Dont drive in excessive speedsince hill routes may be narrow andsteeply ascending and descendingwith bends.5-First Aid Box and wooden blocks should always be kept in the vehicle. 5-Driver should not wear Rubbersleepers while driving, instead theshoes shall be worn by the driverwhile driving6-The vehicle should be technically fit for the hill journey. Before start your journey specially check the Brakes, steering,level of Engine oil & coolant.6-Driver should not perform more thaneight hours as steering duty in a day.7- It is advisable to use genuine parts during the repairs of the vehicle and the vehicle should be repaired by thetechnically skilled persons only.7-Special care be taken to ensurethat the vehicle is not driven by aperson under the influence of liquor orany drugs.8- All valid documents related to vehicle and driver should be with the driver. 8- Driver should not operate tape orradio etc in a moving vehicle.9- Backlights and stoplights in working condition should be fixed on the rear part of the vehicle. 9- Loading of passengers or goodsbeyond permissible limits should bestrictly avoided.10-Periodical eye test is advised to every person driving a vehicle. 10- Passenger should not travel inGoods vehicles such as trucks, utilityvan etc.11-All commercial passenger vehicles should invariably obtain the GREEN CARD from either of the transport office atHaridwar, Rishikesh or Dehradun, before starting the hill journey. The green card is given after technical examination ofvehicles and it is a compilation of the registration certificate, valid permit, insurance certificate, Tax payment certificate,driving and conductors license.11- It is advisable not to use the re-treated tyres on the hill roads.12-Always use the horn on the bends. 12- Dont use dazzling headlights inyour vehicle13- While parking the vehicle always apply the hand brakes. 13- Do not overtake without takingpass from the vehicle in front. Neverovertake an overtaking vehicle14- There should be an emergency door in Tourist buses. 14- Dont carry inflamable good orarticles as kerosene/gas/petrol/Diesel.
