The Magi honored Jesus at His birth by giving Jesus gifts. These wise men were from east of Jerusalem and they could have traveled for up to two years to reach Jesus as they followed His star.
The ancestors of many eastern religions could have been part of that group of Magi. There could have been 30 Magi. No one knows their specific origin or numbers but they came from the east and apparently from a long way.
